Sizes of Submariner

Are newer submariners larger than older ones? If so, when did the change take place.

I'll let the experts chime in,but I believe it is still 40mm but wears larger due to the lugs being less tapered. I'm uncertain as to the thickness though and if there were any changes there. Additionally, the maxi larger font may give the watch the illusion of being larger.

You have to define "larger"..

The Sub and Sub Date remain at a nominal 40mm mearurement. But the lugs are thicker, the ceramic bezel is thicker, numerals bolder, and it's overall appearance is one with more "presence"..

This began with the 6 digit reference numbers.. (such as 116610)

Seems like the height of the case is higher on my Hulk than my 16613. Could just be the absence of lug holes makes it appear "thicker"??

They are the same size (40mm), but the new Sub wears larger than the previous generations. It actually wears larger than my 42mm Omega SMP.

Indeed the new cases are higher than the older. compared my 2 Subs and the Hulk case is maybe 2 millimeters higher than my older lug-holes Bluesy. So thicker case, thicker lugs, thicker crown guards, thicker bezel, same diameter dial.

They are both 40 mm....but the Subc wears bigger due to the lugs

Do a search for either here or your choice of search engine - "16610 vs 116610"

Someone has a few side by side shots of both

That's subjective really and not what the OP asked.

My Sub-C (40mm) wears larger than my DJ2 (41mm). Though if you look closely and compare the dials, the dial of the Sub-C is visually smaller. I guess Rolex DID have reason for the fatter lugs. It does feel larger and heftier whilst retaining the 40mm size.
