Any authenticity concerns with this PAM 000?

I purchased from eBay and it was “verified”, but I am not sure how much stock to put into that fact. I also have no idea what to look for when verifying a Panerai.

The strap is new. I purchased direct from Panerai. It came with an alligator leather strap and rubber. I can provide more pics if helpful.

Came with box (inner and outer) and papers. Originally purchased from a dealer in Italy which still seems to be there per Google map search but is now a Rolex dealer. The date on the warranty card is a little funky but I think this is due to bad handwriting versus anything else. I believe it should read 08-08.

Watch is quite accurate as far as I can tell. Lume still strong. The only issue is that the power reserve does not last long. If I do not wind it every day (about 30 turns a day) it will stop running by the following day. I haven’t played around with the power reserve too much and this may be normal for a 14 year old watch that I do not believe has ever been serviced.

Any thoughts or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Hi Joe. You will need to go to a qualified watchmaker who will examine it under a loupe. I did this on Friday just past, and the watchmaker told me it can be hard even for them to tell sometimes with Panerai. I would do that immediately so your worries are dispelled like mine were, or you can return the watch if needed. Wishing you best of luck.

Thank you! It was authenticated by a watchmaker through ebay (Stoll & Co. out of Ohio). The seller was a fellow collector who was very nice and knowledgable about Panerai and purchased the watch from the original owner in 2009. I do not really have any concerns but was more wondering if there are any clues to look for especially down the road if i buy another.

But like you said, short of a watchmaker examining the watch and movement I suppose it would be difficult.

The only way to authenticate your watch is to open it up and look at the details of the movement. Does eBay open the watch and take pictures? That would be very helpful.

They do not tell you this nor do they send pics of the movement.

If the power reserve is that poor on a full wind, i'd bring it to Panerai for a service. The last time I got them to service my 111, it was 600 cad.

Google Pamguard Panerai (I think). You can put in the case number & serial number. This should indicate the watch exists, matches the model and is therefor more than likely real.

I never actually just timed the power reserve from a full wind so I am doing that now.

Fake watches also use real case & serial numbers. Additionally, a frankenwatch can have an authentic case but fake movement. He needs to open the watch and examine the movement in detail. There is no other way.

Is the little pin on the front side of the crown guard brushed or polished? I'm almost certain it was polished from factory, so if it is brushed, it was likely serviced, or at least polished before you bought it. I have seen many of the polished pins on these models turn brushed to save time when brushing the crown guard.

That is a very good question. Upon close inspection under a light, the top of the pin does appear polished and not brushed like the crown guard.

Agreed, but it would be unlikely to match as they would have been made in batches of the same number.

It still needs to be opened up to validate that the movement is genuine and it's the correct movement for that particular watch. Lot's of frankenwatches out there. Don't be that guy who gets stuck with one.

I am buying a Pam 111H from a pretty big dealer out of Boca Raton Florida. Im trying to register the watch on Pamguard site, and whatever numbers I put in, nothing comes up.

On the back of the watch it's "OP6567" and Serial is H1568. If it returns watch not found, does that indicate it's a replica??

I just looked at a photo of one.
It had a 7 digit serial number.
Are you sure you are looking at the right number?
