Well, I finally did it, dropped my diver...
I mean it was bound to happen eventually and today was the day, dropped my diver on a smooth stone tile floor from about 4ft or so when I was trying to put it on. Just fumbled it. This was the watch that brought me to AP and I picked it up almost a year to the day. Up until this point I'd managed to avoid banging it on anything.
Here's the damage; [IMG][/IMG] Quite a big dent on the very top of the bezel. It's really hard to photograph, but its there when it catches the light just right. Most people probably wouldn't notice. I honestly can't remember if that ding on the lug was there before or not. So, I am a bit sad, but I was more worried about the shock it took so I threw it on the timegrapher: [IMG][/IMG] It's between +2 and +8 a day depending on the position. I'm impressed by this. As long as things are reasonable I'm good, I don't chase accuracy. The impact it took and the sound it made was just terrible. I'll keep an eye on it this week, but I'm pretty impressed with the robustness of this watch. I'm guessing a ceramic piece would have shattered? I don't know why I'm surprised, it looks like a tank, so it should be a tank right? But in talking with other collectors, there seems to be a perception that these aren't very robust. Hopefully my perception of the damage subsides over the coming days/weeks, but if not, there's always bezel replacement. Last edited by squall1; 26 January 2023 at 04:31 PM.. I’ve always found Offshores to be very robust except for the ceramic bezel which can chip very easily

Don't know if it helps but try to think of this mishap as something that added character to your watch, making it more unique (obv. as long as nothing was damaged in terms of functionality)

Even with zoom it is difficult to see!
The diver has been my daily beater for 8 months now and I agree about the robustness. Mine got just a few scratches but it still looks good. In my opinion though, being a professional kind of watch a diver is a piece in which some scratches make sense. The strap looks good on it, I hadn't considered that color scheme but it's really appealing. Is it from AP? |

Grab the retrofit kit from AP for the new style quick detach straps and you can add a deployant buckle so things like this don't ever happen again

Do they actually make that? I inquired about 5 months ago when I purchased my ROO Diver and was told they don’t make anything like that. Is there a part number?

I tried the 43mm ROO at the NY AP house, and we switched the buckle for the deployant on the demo. Some people say it's not as comfortable, but I'd get it for this watch and find out for myself.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=885644 The new style deployant is very comfortable. You could also use the tang buckle if you so desire, but not the original 44mm tang. Yes. It's available, but not cheap https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=885644 |
