Depends on what her style is. Two completely different watches.

I am far from a feminist advocate, but we shouldn’t assume all women are brand and status seeking homing missiles / robots. They have individual preferences and those preferences vary. Mine explicitly told me she doesn’t want a Rolex because she shies from the spotlight and doesn’t want the attention it might draw.

The ballon bleu with the silver guilloché dial is also stunning. Agree Cartier is more elegant and many women LOVE it.

Good grief, @buddenfan! Unless YOU are going to be wearing the watch, you don't pick the one you like best. If it is a gift for your lady, you need to give her the watch that SHE prefers.

If it's to be a stealth purchase/gift, then you need to figure out a way to have her look at all of the watches you are considering, to get her comments and determine which she likes the best. If it's not a stealth purchase/gift, then just come right out and show her the photos and ask her. Or give her a monetary budget amount and tell her to pick out a watch that fits the budget. But do not, under any circumstances, give her a watch that she might not like and never want to wear.

Sheesh!

That’s pretty much exactly what I was told when I tried to pull a surprise watch gift and failed. I’ve since learned the element of surprise is overrated.

I agree with the comments to consider the DJ. My wife moved from a cartier to a small DJ. Havent seen the cartier on her wrist since. It seems a bit more elegant than an OP and might offer the right balance.

However, i'm apparently in the minority on asking her / involving her in the decision. Sometimes too much involvement starts to feel like you bought it yourself. If you have a decent idea what she likes I'm sure you will pick well. Surprises are memorable.

Good luck!

Ask her. Many years ago I wanted to buy a Rolex or Cartier for my wife. I gave her a choice. We went to the stores together, she tried on many watches, and each time she gravitated to the Cartier. She found the Rolex too clunky for her taste. I bought her the watch she wanted, the Cartier SS Demoiselle. It is a small watch, she loves it to this day, loves wearing it. I have often asked if she wants a Rolex for a special occasion, like b’day, and she always say no. Had I bought the Rolex out of surprise, it would have never been worn. Again, ask her.

Of those two options, yes, the Cartier looks great. However, I surprised my wife with the lady DJ and I don't think she would have it any other way. Many of the Datejusts are just as elegant and striking, if not more so than Cartier.

She's not a brand person AT ALL, but she knows I love Rolex and was happy to add another to her collection.

Wow, what an incredible pic! Looks like it belongs in a Magazine!

You made the right choice.

Classic good taste that'll never be out of style IMO.

Most importantly, how did she like it?

Don't forget Omega

During a trip to a luxury jeweler, where I bought my Seamaster years ago, my wife saw and loved the Omega Ladymatick. We purchased the rose gold TT w/diamond markers and she loves it to this day. Stock photo.
