2013/14 Mercedes C63 AMG Estate

I have an old Aston as my daily and my wife has an M2, so we have a BMW 330D Touring as a dog-carrier.

The 330 replaced my pick-up which was the previous dog carrier middle of last year as we bought a holiday home by the Sea which has restricted parking access so the truck didn’t fit!

The 330 is brilliant, but I hate it! It bores me and as we are now spending a reasonable amount of time driving it up and down the motorway to our holiday home, I need something that floats my boat as little more.

I love old V8 cars which are more about muscle than driving dynamics (hence the old Aston), so the logical choice is a C63AMG Estate from 2013/14 (the newer ones don’t do it for me so much).

Has anyone on here any experience of this generation of AMG? Any advice as I start my search?

I don’t own that specific model but I do have 3 MB’s. I have found much useful info on MB World. They have a sub-forum for almost every model, including yours.

Well, as my avatar name here, I was an avid AMG fan, still am. I have had a few C63 dating to 2008 and 2010. They had the bigger displacement that time. It made me laugh, it sounded like an old muscle car. Never had any mechanical issues whatsoever. Then in 2012 I bought the SLS AMG. I adored that car. I did have a transmission problem which was covered under warranty. Thank goodness as it was about 27k. My advice is have the car thoroughly inspected by MB and have all service records. If you can get an extended warranty from the dealer I would also strongly suggest. If it’s the 6.2L motor, they did have issues with gaskets letting go and having to be replaced.

In 2004 I bought two brand-new SL500s one for CA and MN. Not only are they fun to drive, they're two-seaters so it would just be the dog and you. Win-win.

No real useful advice. I don’t own one but have admired them since they came out. Hope your quest for one comes out fruitful. They are really cool cars.

M156 engine is marvelous and one of the better ones from AMG. I am a big AMG guy and I too love the muscle car feel. I currently have a 2021 C63 coupe with the M177 V8.

Mbworld is a great forum and there is a old Mercedes tech from Chicago that makes tons of YouTube videos and he praises that engine from that generation of C63.

I would suggest a classic W124 estate. "The last true Mercedes-Benz", built to a standard before the accountants took over, and build quality went South.

It won't be fast, but it will be smooth, relaxing, and ideal as a motorway-muncher and dog transport. Six-cylinder autos are the best bet.

Long-winded, but informative and amusing review here:

Very cool cars but potential maintenance hog and expensive to use as a daily. As much as I like them I’d personally be more inclined towards a Macan GTS.

I have a 2016 AMG C63S. It's fun as heck to drive, people see a little four door sedan, but the twin turbo V8 is an absolute monster. Maintenance costs are commensurate. Had to have all new brakes put on it, and also somehow had a bent valve right after the warranty ran out which was a huge expense as far as car repair costs go, but I absolutely love the car.

My net worth is $23,134,726,811.01 and my accountant said I can’t afford it when I asked about a used V8 amg.

Got another new Bentayga instead.

That nearly covers my ex-wife's monthly AMEX bill.

Nice I have a 2021 Coupe. How did the valve get bent?

Fully agree and my 1994 E320 Coupe approves as well. Such a smooth and relaxing ride. Good condition W124 Estates are hard to find though. Here in Germany those were often used by small businesses (painters, plumbers, mechanics etc) and had a rough life.

I got my stick shift E320 from an old lady who had barely put 60k km on it in 20 years of ownership. Now at 200k km with minimal maintenance until recently when the cylinder head gasket and the motor cable assembly had to be replaced. Most parts remain dirt cheap with so many W124 in circulation.
