Thoughts on a new 5712/1A-001
I know most people might think this is an absurd question:
I've been offered a new 5712/1A-001 by AD but I'm hesitating. the 5711 is gone and has been replaced by the 5811. Eventually all of the 57.. series will be replaced Q: buy the 5711/1A or wait for the future? If I'm buying a new car I want the new one, not last years model Thanks, |

slam dunk no brainer to get it. I'll even give you money for it so you can build history and agree to not flip.

I'd take a 3712 at today's retail in a heartbeat.

Just buy it. Stop thinking.
If 5712 is replaced by new reference buy that one as well. Done!

think about it, there will be always a new model coming out whether you buy the next model coming or the next replacing it........just buy what you like, not what's new out there
Current collection: 1) Rolex Submariner(116610LV), 2) Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional(311.30.42.30.01.006), 3) Rolex GMT-Master II(126710BLNR), 4) Breitling B01 Navitimer 43(AB0138211B1A1) |

I wouldn’t turn down one of the most sought after sports watches in the world. And who’s to say the new model will be better? It might involve a size change that makes it less suitable to your wrist.

5712
Thank you for responses.
Not a joke. I have several Nautilus, just not this one. As time goes on I become more discerning in my collecting and don't just purchase a watch because it's available to me. |

The 5712/A is simply a must have piece if offered to purchase.
But I can fathom the hesitation especially as Patek discontinued the 5711 only to bring out the updated 5811 (albeit in WG) version a short while later so the OP is perhaps of the mindset that Patek may bring out an updated version of this model as the 5812? And if that were the case, and if I had a crystal ball then I would wait as well I guess. But then again if I had a crystal ball I would have bought all my Nautilus without waitlist and at discount pre 2017. And therein lies the rub. |

Hard to pass on that, may also be the last of the 5712 steel. Personally much prefer a steel sports piece to a white gold one assuming that it will finish soon. Lighter and more scratch resistant than white gold, easier to wear. Wouldn’t worry about what next iteration may be assuming there is an update of it.

Makes sense, but this one is iconic and would complement any serious collection.

I bought the one I had after someone I knew passed on it. I ended up not liking it and I sold it.
I had tried the model on before that, back in the day when it would sit in the case. It took wearing it for a while to decide it wasn’t really for me. |

I get your point of view. That being said…if you readily have the funds…I would take it. It’s a great watch that is super interesting as it’s the first real complicated Nautilus (outside of 3712) and is a great daily driver.

Good Gosh, if I was offered it at retail, I would get to the store at warp speed. If I didn’t have the fund, I would skip meals for as long as it takes to fund. Love LOVE that watch.

Long story short, I would not hesitate and pick up that 5712/1A even if a replacement was around the corner. |

I can't believe there is any hesitation here. I'll even buy it from you at a small premium if you are really thinking about passing on it.

I'm surprised the responses keep rolling in. Thank you.
We all love watches, and we certainly collect for different purposes. The opinions shared here clearly point in the direction I had assumed: buy it without hesitation, which I probably will. The End |
