Just put a terrible dent on my bezel. Options?

I’m super mad at myself. I’m usually careful when walking through the door but was on the phone and nicked a sliding glass door today.

What do you guys think?

1) repair at Clearwater? I assume they have to laser weld it and fill it, then polish?
2) replace the whole bezel
3) live with it

I don’t plan to ever sell it, but looking at this dent might bother me everyday

Im terribly sorry to see this, and I bet you’ll be frustrated for a long while.

But can I attempt to influence/change your perspective slightly? This is a diver, and was designed for much harsher conditions and hence susceptible to much harsher punishments than a light dent from a sliding door. I’d go as far to say as a spotless tool watch is quite a weird look for me.

Hence I’d go with #3.

Come up with a much more interesting story about how it happened and live with it. As crispyness87 points out, it is a dive watch.

Make yourself wait 30 days. See how you feel after that, then make your decision.

New bezel.

It would annoy me.

Live with it until it’s due for service. If it still bothers you at that point inquire about options 1 or 2 then make your decision.

I picked up a new highly sought after watch that came out in 2016 and I scraped the back of the bracelet badly a week after whilst getting my daughter’s baby seat out of the car. I was fairly gutted at the time and my immediate reaction was to take it to the AD to get it sent to be repaired.

I didn’t take it back then as it was 50 miles away and I couldn’t find the time. After a couple of weeks I realised it wasn’t that badly scratched and I’d get it repaired next time I was in the AD’s town. Then I kind of just lived with it. Never really given it much thought until 6 1/2 years later when I read this thread :-)

See how you go and in a month if it winds you up still, get it repaired then. If it doesn’t, just enjoy.

I’d live with it for a few months, wear it more care free without worry. Then send in to replace the whole bezel after a few more dings.

Surprisingly not expensive relatively speaking for a new bezel part.

I agree with the crowd, live with it for awhile and then consider your options when it is due for service. Sure you can send it in now and have it come back looking new but since you wear it chances are that another scratch/dent could happen.

This! I’ve accumulated my fair share of scratches and dings. And that first few weeks or so, I’m sick over it. Then…it just becomes part of the watch and the patina. If it still bothers you as much as it does now, you can deal with it then.

Sorry about the ding and I would be pretty upset myself. However, as an outsider, it doesn’t look bad and I would live with it until it’s next service. Honestly, you may have more fun with the piece since you are no longer worried about scuffing the bezel.

This. Live with it for a few weeks whilst wearing the watch and see how much it really bothers you. If so, replace the bezel at some point. Doesn’t need to be immediate though, since it’s just going to get scratched again.

Some great advise given here. The first scrapes, dings always hurt the most.

I don’t think AP laser weld their bezel anymore. I asked them last year to do it on my 25730ST midcase and was told that they only do it on clasp now. Why only clasp? I don’t know.

What happens in 30 days that is different than today? If it bothers you enough to make a post, get it fixed. I don't know what that entails but the sooner you get started the sooner it will be back.

Straight line forecast of 4 more dings at a rate of one door hit a week.

If you chase every little ding or scratch you will go crazy and broke, and you will still walk out of the shop and hit it on the door handle.

Ouch! But I'm also in the wait and see camp. Will probably not be the last mishap, and can be taken care of together with the other battle marks at some future service.

I’d wait a bit, and decide. It’s not that bad though. I also have a diver.

I'd now use it to wear it out without too much care and then get the bezel replaced entirelt at some point once it's taken more abuse.

I know it sucks and it's not the smallest ding I've ever seen... so if it bothers you this much get it fixed. I'd wear it until more dings / scratches appear and the bezel really deserves to be replaced

I chipped the ceramic bezel on my platinum Offshore within about 3 weeks of buying it and I changed the bezel straight away even though it cost £2500. I took the view that looking at the chip every day was not so that I wanted to do. If you decide to change it be prepared for the watch to be away for 2-3 months although Clearwater may be much faster.

Ouch. Sorry to hear. I would not be able to wear that watch with that dent. Replace bezel. If you can afford that watch, you can afford to replace the bezel (ideally)

Overtime it will bother you less.

Plus, you might add another dent later on and it will complement the initial dent.

If you will not sell it just enjoy and wear. You might get the bezel changed down the road.

I would just leave it, it's super small anyways

Sorry to hear that happened. It would bug me but I can't say I'd replace it but if it was my only watch I would.

Perhaps a bit of common sense is in order: u bought metal bezel sports watch and are upset u nicked it? That should have been your base case expectation. Further, this is just the beginning of the road for u. If u wear this watch as intended, meaning participating in sports related activities, you should expect many more. If u can’t tolerate such base case scenario, sell the watch and buy something with ceramic bezel. Otherwise, learn to live with it.
