Deciding which one to wear is a good kind of problem

If one can't justify the 5711 it isn't for them nor do they truly know this watch. No need to convince myself of anything other than when to wear vs. AP.

I buy watches based on feelings, not analytics. There are just way too many parameters to classify... Between the two choices you've proposed, I would go with a Nautilus any day. I have handled both and AP just does not cut it in terms of design, quality and comfort. However, to each his own...

I'll third that! Not even remotely accurate....Quality, design, look and feel tops in my book! Also my opinion based on more than merely handling both. It is based on more than feelings or analytics but based on actual wearing and owning.

Sorry, this was meant in the context of a comparison between Nautilus and AP RO. IMNO, Nautilus wins.

Interesting take on Patek's 5711 design at another forum (hopefully its OK to post)

http://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comm...t_some_of_the/

In my opinion its a draw! I think the AP 15202 wins in details and finish. The subtle sparkle of the bracelet and its polished beveled edges and brushed finish puts it in another category. I think the AP dial is more balanced (PP has a ton of blank space on the bottom and white date wheel). The 5711 face looks pretty sweet, especially in blue. Its easy to read which is a plus for me. The 5711 leads in exclusivity and is far more sought after. I prefer the fit of the PP on a a smaller wrist but not a huge fan of the flimsy feeling bracelet.

Disclaimer, I own a 15400 and currently saving for a 5711.

Just to close the post that I started 5-months ago, to no surprise, I chose a RO over a Nautilus. Honestly, depending on what is important to a buyer, one could obviously go either way. I am glad to see that this post elicited such a robust discussion vs. just being a popularity contest. I am sure that it may help someone pondering these classic Genta designs.

have a look at this thread to see the 15400 deconstructed by an AP tech:

Very, very late to this thread

And I make no apologise for resurrecting it.

Superb article and nicely written, with a wide range of thoughts.

Thank you

Wow I have never seen such a quantitative type of analysis. I usually tell people when trying to make a decision between two good choices--- make a list but in the end it is hard to quantify each parameter in the list because some will count more than others-- However very nice and fun to read through the analyses.

Months later.. I have traded my 15202 for an 5711.

It's the tight choice for me, the dial makes all the difference

Royal Oak

I tried both, and really tried to like the 5711. While some people feel it's thin and elegant I felt it was thin and flimsy. I went with the 15300 as it looked and felt the best on my wrist.

I will pick 15400, rotor is amazing design, love the bezel more, love the dial more, lower price. everything is better to me in 15400.

Ok, I know it is a old thread but one of most informative for all who are torn between PP and AP.
Hence my idea of resurrection.

I apologise everyone who things differently.
