I would go for something in yellow gold or rose gold in the Rolex family. Its nice to have some bling for the parties over the holidays :).

I recommended the Calatrave 5227R earlier, but if you want to stay with Rolex I would recommend a 36mm day date. I believe you found your DD40 a little too much bling, but you should try the 36, pure class and elegance IMO. Bling yes but a little more restrained IMO.

5711 would be a great addition.
Extremely versatile similar to that of Rolex. May have to a add a few bucks and work to find one but it is a special watch.

I second the 5711 in blue. The blue 15400st is also a great choice. The problem is that right now the Patek is going for $20k over retail and I'm sure the blue RO is over $20k. I would just wait to pay retail for either. It's really not a great time to buy any highly coveted SS watch. The Royal Oaks, Daytonas, Nautilus are all going for a lot more than the beginning of the summer and it's inevitable that prices will come down after the holidays. However PM prices are pretty much stable. If you go that route I would either pick up a DD40 in yellow or white gold (if you like them), a 16618 or 116618 in blue (aluminum or ceramic your preference) or gold Daytona in either yellow or white gold. Doesn't matter if it has the old or new bezel imo. If you go for gold the black panda dial is the one to get. In white, the gorgeous blue dial is stunning.
The gold Sub is the most popular obviously. If you go ceramic blue there are two dials and you have to confirm with the seller before you buy. Some pictures don't show the difference very well. I'm not really a fan of the gold GMTs. The 116719 Pepsi is a beautiful watch but it's historically a SS watch and I personally wouldn't pay the premium for it when you can get the iconic SS ones for a third of the price and even buy a Coke bezel for it. When you get a PM watch it should always be a combination that is only reserved for PM.

Looks really great with a tan. Gold always does! I don't care that it's more blingy. For a vacation and the beach nothing compares to a gold watch on the wrist.

A dress watch (Calatrava?) or a PP Aquanaut.

I also suggested the Chronometre Souverain (pic of mine attached) which can be found pre-owned in your price range. Key differences between the two are that the Bleu case is 39 mm and made of tantalum, while the Souverain is 40 mm and found in RG or Platinum. The Bleu's dial is brilliant and probably the most complex dial FP Journe makes in a standard watch, where the Souverain is more traditional, but also not easy (that's a theme for Journe) to manufacture with the solid gold dial. The Souverain also has a power reserve at 3 o'clock. They both share an 18k movement that is a true work of art. |
