Day date opinion

Hi guys I got a call a few days back from my A.D and if I am interested in one he would be able to put me in the list for this year.We didn’t discuss the configuration and I told I will let him know.Looked thru the Rolex configure website and I decided to opt for yellow gold with green dial or rose gold with olive dial.In Canada yellow gold is app.55000 after taxes and 61000 for rose gold. What you guys think will they hold their values in the long run.

Possibly! The next two decades promise an unprecedented leap in technological progress. With the integration of artificial intelligence and other innovations, the allure of a $60,000 watch may wane. It's intriguing to ponder whether investing such a hefty sum in a diminutive metal object will seem ludicrous in the grand scheme of evolving technologies.
Hilarious if you step back and think about it all.

“In the long run” it doesn’t matter how much $ your watch is worth as long as wearing it gives you a little bit of happiness. Short term those are 2 of the most hyped configurations. I prefer the YG green dial personally.

Both are gorgeous timepieces.

Since YG green dial is $6k cheaper than RG olive dial (per your price above) so I will go for YG.

In secondary market, YG green dial commands higher price than RG olive dial.

OP, as we chatted before these new Canadian prices have become pretty steep.
I am very envious you have this opportunity.

The allure of a Yellow Gold Day-Date is timeless. Watch collecting is a personal journey, and each choice reflects one's unique taste and style. That’s just my personal choice.

Don’t worry about tomorrow’s value, pick the watch you love today!

Those are 2 of my favorite DD configurations, if you're thinking with the deconstructed Roman numeral dials. Personally, I prefer the YG with the green dial over the RG/Olive dial. That YG against the green really looks amazing to me!

As far as holding values, I think either one would be about the same. If you're looking for something that holds value, I wouldn't think a DD would be the best choice for that. Probably a SS Submariner would be much safer for value retention.

However, either of those DD's will give you an enjoyment value that will go through the roof! At least I know it would for me.

Why not buy an old one from 1973 (reference # 1803) like I did?

I would get a 5-digit one, better looking, better price. Get a full RSC service, good to go.

Followed up with concerns about the value of gold down the road. What carrot gold does Rolex guarantee?

IMHO yellow gold is the way to go for a DD. It’s a classic. I’d look at the silver or white dial perosnally.

Good luck

Buy whichever one you love most. Think if it as a sunk cost and the price of happiness. If you’re buying it more for an investment, those two aren’t quite the best choices and I’d look elsewhere.

Secondary market on a DD in any configuration is the way I would go. RG comes and goes as do the prices. YG or WG is the one for me.

Happy to oblige with this friendly request….(typically I do not answer questions with more than one question mark, but very happy to make an exception)

If you’re worried about holding value first and foremost, I’d say go a different direction.

Can’t go wrong with either! I have brown skin, so rose gold blends in better. Can you try both somewhere?

I never buy watches for investments but to enjoy them. These are not cheap and I don’t want the values to go down the tube. There is a lot of thinking I have to do.

If value over that period of time is that important to you, I would suggest you are buying for the wrong reasons

This dial is perfect.
Do you have the reference number / dial color. The modern champagne is too gold

That’s what people thought when Quartz watches were invented and subsequently iWatches and…. Smart Phones…. The appeal of mechanical watches has so far stood the test of time despite all new technologies that can tell you the time more accurately and effectively.
