Submariner 116613LB not gaining in value?

I would like to know why the TT bluesy Submariner isn't marked up on the second hand market compared to he stainless steel counterparts. I know there is a high demand for the stainless steel models so is it that the TT version is easy to obtain from your AD or is it just not popular.

Two tone pieces have never been as popular as stainless steel.

More less that it is readily available but even on that piece
discounts have been decreased from the 15 to 20 % once before.
Resale value has gone up tough.

It's easier to get than SS but does not seem to lose as much as other TT models. To say it does not gain is not true.. You are in the UK so you will relate to these figures:
I bought a brand new unworn with stickers 116613LB from a grey dealer in Oct'16 for £8400. Since then the UK has seen 2 price increases (+10% Nov'16, +5% Oct'18). A preowned one year old 116613LB on watchfinder is currently £10,850 which is £500 over retail. So in two Rolex years, a new watch was £8,400 and today a used one is over £10,000.

Simple economics... Market price is decided by supply vs demand.

THey are simply not as popular at the end of the day. That doesn't take anything away from it though

Have you not looked at the secondary pricing in the last two years?

Two years ago, you could buy a BNIB for around 10k (USD). Now, that same piece is high 12's to 13. So yeah, it's going up.

Now if you're talking about not selling at a premium over retail, OK, that's a fair point.

Yes, these were 7K unworn all day long a couple of years ago, if they are over 10K now that is actually a huge rise, nearly 50%.

3 out of the 4 ADs I’ve been in over the last 6 months have had one in the display case. It’s the same as if all of the “hot” SS models were readily available. Can guarantee you if ADs readily overstocked hulk’s, you’d be seeing them go for 80-90% MSRP on the used market.

That being said the bluesy is on my short list of acquisitions. (Fingers crosses no fluke happens and the pricing sky rockets)

They are (or were) not an uncommon sight in any AD window, or at least that used to be the case.. which is great - an amazing reference that you can actually buy! What are you waiting on?

A sad reality is that TT models are selling for less than for SS. It’s much worse on the GMT models. Solid gold is in the same boat.

I’m the OP of a thread about SS models and can’t believe how popular they are. I started a thread for Gold Members and it lasted 5 days.

Personally, I’m a TT guy. Sold my SS Submariner for a TT Datejust. Still own a SS Oysterdate.

I was frustrated for a while. In reality most people outside Rolex circles think TT look better. I do! Just not in the threads.

Try getting one now. 116613LB has also increased in price when compared to their prices 24 months ago before the craze started.

And you most likely wont be getting any discount from ADs. I know in Australia grays are selling these for a few grand more than MSRP.

Actually EVERY Rolex has increased in price from 24 months ago from their selling prices. SS/TT and Full PM.

Of all the TT Rolex in the market , the 116613LB Bluesy
holds the best resale value...
Is also now getting harder to get a discount BNIB as well

Aside from the new TT CHNR GMT, I think the 116613LB is probably the only other TT model that's strongly holding value these days. It's been in display cases during my last few AD visits (except for Wempe NY a few weeks ago). However, I've heard similar things about the acceptable discount on that watch coming way down.

The Bluesy has been out forever so that will factor in a little bit but they are up. As a general rule: The more you get into PM the more they depreciate.

I disagree that the TT models have “never been as popular”. They aren’t now but I have been wearing Rolex’s for 25 years and it used to be the other way around. In the last 5 years or so, the TT has definitely been less popular.

Still waiting to find a solid gold ceramic GMT or sub for under 15k--don't think it's gonna happen.

I wish they were $15k. LOL - I would buy up bigtime.

Second hand solid gold subs and gmts are easily $25k. BNIB is close to $30k

They've gone up quite a bit recently on the second hand market but are far easier to get hold of than the SS models. I walked passed two AD's yesterday that had them in the window

I have seen TT subs and GMTs in AD windows in my local stomping grounds (Liverpool & Chester UK) very recently. Love the bluesy - the colours work so well and are such a classic look.

being in the UK i would hope you would want the value to be down as otherwise you cant even get it if you wanted it. Its a TT watch and its not as mainstream is the simple answer.

Secondary value is a funny thing as everyone wants it to be high but complain endlessly when it is because then they cant get one at an AD
