I have a TT GMT2 and Blue Sub but its loses it shine after 12 mths. I notice the gold looks more dull and its becomes 'reddish gold' instead of showroom shine. Is there any way I could do about it?

An ultrasonic cleaning should get it shiny again. Otherwise it would need to be polished, but polishing removes material and can only be done a set number of times before the bracelet will need to be replaced. So I don't recommend polishing, just ultrasonic cleaning.

Scrub it down using your fingers with white toothpaste (not gel) and rinse well in hot water.

Sent to RSC and they said the reddish color on the gold is due oxidisation. Got a free cleaning and restore to its shine now. How on earth does 18K gold get oxidised?

Gold doesn't oxidize but the alloying metals in it do.

Rmember, 18K is 75% gold; 25% other stuff (mostly copper).

Isn't tooth paste an abrasive? Won't it cause scratches and also wear down the metal?

i'd recommend using a cape cod cloth - but remember to place tape over the satin part of the links while polishing.

A very fine abrasive; it will clean up your watch but will not polish out a brushed finish or scratch a polished one.

And, it leaves your watch's breath minty fresh!

Have you ever washed your watch in soap and water gold will dull if not cleaned.You could try cape cod on the gold only that should bring back the shine and no you will not remove a vast amount of gold or any other metal.

Sell it? Send it in for a polish? After only one year....that's crazy!! Just buy a Cape Cod cloth first. I've seen results on vintage jewellery that were nothing short of miraculous! On a newer piece they work beautifully. Try it first - you be amazed. Best, Mark.

Cape Cod cloths are brilliant for this,i just use a little piece and a cotton bud and polish the gold.

Cape cod cloth works great. I even used it to polish clips on my MontBlanc pens, which are plated ... so the amount of metal it removes SEEMS to be negligible.

Mine hasn't shown any signs of dulling, and I just keep it clean with soap and warm water.

Clean with liquid soap and water. Dry with soft cotton.Tape off SS then rub very hard with cape cod cloth. She will have a Showroom shine in no time.
