Speedmaster serial number

Just Recently bought new/ unworn Speedmaster with date on card July 2020 from a respected grey dealer here in the UK....all sticker on, the presentation box and all the relevant stuff, nato, spring bars + tool that goes with a new Speedmaster pro hensalite. Even came in the outer brown delivery cardboard box with omega on the side of the box.

Just checked the serial number 78874270 on the back of the case, on one of the date of manufacture checkers online. It states 2006 as year of manufacture.....is that actually possible that a watch with a serial number from 2006 would be used for a new watch, if you see what I mean. I’ve no doubt it’s the real thing, just seems strange having a serial number from 2006, if that is the case.
Can these be in such large stock numbers that this watch would still be sold as new/ unworn stock, is it just your luck what serial number you get when you buy a new / unworn watch?

Any help appreciated, thank you.....the case number and garantee card numbers match also.

I presume this is common. Saying “BNIB” or “New, never worn” allows sellers to charge more. 99% of buyers never bother to really check. You should ask your seller for an explanation.

The big box packaging for the Speedmaster was introduced in 2014. If all you paperwork is dated correctly then you probably have the correct watch. What is your reference to check the serial nuber date of production? Also suggest go to the Omega forums should be a few experts on the forum who may be able to help. I also believe Omega customer service offers for a fee to validate the serial numbers, of the case, movement and bracelet. Check out their website.

Speedmasters have their own set of serial numbers, differing from other Omega models I think. I had a bit of a fright dating my mid-90s one at first.

Thanks for the reply...the reference is;
31130423001005

I had a look on an Omega forum, I think Speedmasters have their own serial number system which would put the date / serial number out of sync...I found this on their forum...which may indicate what you’ve said.

Great cheers for the reply...I was exactly the same, didn’t tie up at all....my reference number is
31130423001005, which apparently only appeared in 2014 according to this from the Omega forum...

Given all the evidence you provide, your watch is 100% correct in every respect.
There is absolutely no reason to question its build date
Enjoy it to the full as it will be be one of the last of the Mohicans
