I don’t know what’s the point: why would you change your dial from black to blue or blue to black? Nice to know that one always has possibilities!

I own the black dial and saw the 2018 version at a dealer preview a few weeks ago. The blue looked better in real than photos but if I had to choose one, I'd still go classic black.

The WG BLRO is actually my favourite and most worn watch in my collection.... to the point that I'd even consider adding the 2018 version.

SO, I'm going with blue. I WILL be paying a deposit just in case there ever is a line, but I think I'll be ready to buy this for my 33rd bday on Dec this year, vs rushing to buy one right now.

In the meantime I might update my PP 5167 to a PP5164 (new thread incoming).

I REALLY appreciate everyone's feedback and advice. I weighed in everyones opinion in making this decision. THANKS all!

Great choice—as would have been the black one aswell!

I understood from members here that swapping the dial for free is a no go and more a myth

I contacted 3 seperate AD's I've dealt with over the years and none of them had any info about swapping dials on the WG BLRO, and another member on here contacted a RSC and received the same response. Up to this point it seems to be just rumor as no one has been able to get a confirmation from Rolex at any level.

I would go old, I like the contrast of the black against the bezel...but only you know if you like the blue dial better.

EDIT: Just saw you decided to go blue. Solid choice...congrats.

I'd go blue, take your time and source one. Prices should soften.

So true. If you are about to change dials, if even possible, you should be ready to pay. Rolex is not doing any work for free, as I understand it. Stop false rumours, please!

I vote blue, makes a welcome change from the ubiquitous black dial. It stands out.

I ended up with the new one. My AD said that I should have it at the end of this month.
Why new, blue one?
I think that both watches are great, you can’t go wrong. I did a lot research. There is a possibility that with the blue dial this new GMT will be rare model. As I understood, it is the first time that you can get your GMT with blue dial. New model is not considered ”hot” at this time which means that there are not that many people buying it. Inside the watch there is this older mechanism 3186 and according to my research this model with blue dial+3186 will be very short term model—maby even shorter cycle than the older black dial version.
Yeah, black is classic and good looking, but this blue one is very unique. There will be plenty of black dial SS versions and WG versions out there, but only a few blue dial.
And the blue one is just so beautiful!! With my bluesy... can’t wait getting my WG GMT II with blue dial!
Try calling couple of AD’s and ask for some reduction: you should get maby -10% — unless AD’s at your place are obeying this stricter policy towards discounts.
Let your heart decide!

Just for the sake of argument here. Do you all know that Rolex readily sells blue dial to anyone who purchased BLRO within last one/two years since release at Basel 2018? So, for less than EUR 700 you may have the best of both worlds. I did so myself and got black dialed and ordered blue dial which should be arriving anytime soon. I though presume, that to get an option like that you should go through an AD. Like myself.

Obviously many people are misled here. You may get (of course not free of charge) the new blue dial in case you bought BLRO in a certain time span before Basel 2018. Precisely lenght of time span, i am not sure to tell you so, but presume around an year. So no free swap of any kind. This is just a hand extended by Rolex, otherwise you know no option exist to order new dial unless you return old one and prove done because of intervention needed.

...you can change dial for almost any model you want, but ofcourse you have to pay. I just discussed this with my AD in Finland, I am about to change my dial in my Daytona from black to white. So it is not specially hand extension for this WG GMT—it is business for Rolex, for any model: you pay, you can change the dial.

Went to my favourite ADD today, and he had a WG Gmt2 blue dial.

Discussed with him and asked if they sell a lot of these WG Gmt2, as he had a black dial the last time I went there. He then told me the blue of today and the black of last month are the same watch ...

Rolex send him a new blue dial with instruction to swap it with the black dial, and return the black ...

I liked the black dial

Thought I liked the black dial more...

But I'm warming towards the blue

If I had to pick today, it would probably be the blue dial.

Go with whichever colour you prefer! (or get both)

It looks like the black dials will die off sooner than we all thought at AD's......

This also makes since why Rolex didn't update the movement in the WG BLRO too.

Thanks Alpino

I struggled with same problem and ended choosing my Blue Baby... I love it.
My guess is: wg pepsi with blue dial and older movement will be limited production. It will be rarer than wg pepsi with black dial.
This aside:

Blue dial for sure

Old WG BLRO sort of blends in as opposed to the pop of the blue dials

When will Rolex update the blue with the new movement?

I like the classic black, but I know why Rolex changed it.

No the Black dial will be the rare bird. Because all of the in stock black dials will be converted to blue dials.
And no one will know that their Basel 2018 WG BLRO is actually a Basel 2014 WG BLRO with an updated card....

I would go with the new blue, since its for you and not for flipping. That said just because there were few of the others and it had a short run doesn't automatically mean it will have appeal in the future.
