Daytona 116500 vs AP RO 15400

To me more specific, new ceramic Daytona black or AP Royal Oak Boutique Edition blue? Which would you choose? I stumbled upon an elusive blue Royal Oak, which I have always admired for a long time, but I must flip one of my watches in order to get it. I recently acquired a Patek 5711 white and 5164 for a premium so they are staying which sadly leaves only the Daytona. If I do the trade, I will also add a Sub ND 114060 to serve as my beater. Is this a good move or should I just stay put? Need some guidance.

This

For that

Which piece would complement my collection better?

Keep your 116500 and stay put.

In my mind the Daytona completes your collection. It’s the only Chrono you have.

Royal Oak + Naut can’t be touched

However, not the 15400. If you were suggesting a 15202 or a blue 15300st, I’d say go for it.

since you already have a 5711 i would not get rid of the daytona. Its better variety.

I prefer the OF Daytonas to the SS, but even with the SS i would stay put.

I'd keep the Daytona. The 15400 is nice but doesn't do much for me. If you were talking a ROO Chrono instead then the choice might be more difficult.

I'd wear the Daytona as your daily bester.

Thanks for your input. I thought the result would be the other way around. I know I shouldn't be too concerned about the investment value, but isn't the value of this particular RO appreciating faster than the Daytona now and for the foreseeable future? I like them both but that blue dial gives the AP an edge for me. As for the Chrono, I've never used it even once since I got it.

Not sure on appreciation value myself. I buy watches to wear and expect them to go down in value. Any movement north is simply luck or a bonus. If I buy something knowing it's going up then I won't wear it -- and that's no fun.

I'd buy based on what you like, not what's popular. If the Daytona doesn't do it for you then let it go. Whether or not the 15400 is the right choice in a replacement is up to you. I personally don't find that model compelling, even with a blue dial. I'd pull a Nautilus out of the stable every time.

But, that's just me.

Surely you must add the stunning Blue AP and use the D500 as your beater, forget the subc. Seems a total no brainer to me to have just about the best sports models from the top 3 brands.

Stay put...you already have a Genta masterpiece. If it was a Jumbo I might think a little differently but that Daytona is a winner and everyone should have at least one Daytona in their collection.

This is absolutely the right answer. The Daytona would make a great daily beater. Much better than the sub.

If it were 15202 ST Blue, I'd do the trade, otherwise no.

I think I would prefer to wear the Daytona as a break from wearing the Nautilus. Variety is the spice...

What’s wrong with the 15400? The movement? The thickness? The second hand?

Probably the size, which is a bit overlarge, but then the blue dial is more vibrant than the 39mms so pluses and minuses.

What Neil said, I think it’s too big for the type of watch it is. The 39mm already wore like a Sub, and it’s technically ‘less sporty’ than the Sub. Add another 2mm and it just makes no sense and looks wonky. I think the watch looks great on the Internet or in a case, but I’ve seen very, VERY few pictures where it looks good on a persons wrist...

Keep the Daytona. I’d swerve the 15400 and try get the blue dial 202.
