Patek & Grand Seiko
I'd like to know if any Patek owners owns a Grand Seiko as well?
Any model would do though i'm looking at a Calatrava against similar style Grand Seiko. If you do, a side-by-side photo would be a nice inclusion. Qn: If you do own both, what are the similarities and differences in terms of fit, finish, form, aesthetics, emotion and anything else you guys could come up with... Grand Seiko do not sell their watches in a place where I could compare both side-by-side in the flesh. So your input is much appreciated. Thank you. |

I have a 5960P and vintage Grand Seiko 5646 GS. I am assuming you are looking at comparing a modern GS with a Patek.
Hard to compare between the two I have as they are completely different watches on completely different levels. Having said that I enjoy wearing both, but they are not really competitors or models one typically cross shop. |

I have a Patek 5146g and a Grand Seiko Quartz, I don't think they are very similar, especially the two I have, manual annual calendar in white gold vs. steel Quartz watch. But, I think the Grand Seiko is a good brand, and I thought it would be nice to own a top tier made Quartz watch, that is super accurate. I rarely wear the Seiko, but it's nice to own, and wear on occasion.

When a Rolex vs Patek comparison is made nothing is wrong but with Grand Seiko it's absurd? Go to a GS dealer...

Hard to compare both. The attention to details of a GS is simply amazing. The PP is just wonderful! |

Pardon my ignorance chaps, but does a Calatrava have hands similar to this particular GS (posted by Deej)? Or should it be said "does this GS have a similar hands to some Calatrava models?" |

IMO, both watches are comparable in terms of dial work. However, PP absolutely thrashes the GS when it comes to movement eye candy...

Now we're talking!
That's what i'm talking about!!
Thanks a lot Nil! You don't just have great tastes, you have excellent photography skills too! I can't stop As for movement eye candy (to you) is it because it's not a gold rotor on the GS as compared to your PP? If i'm not mistaken, GS do have gold rotors in selected limited editions (I could be wrong though). Again, Thank You! |

In terms of movement eye candy by GS, regrettably, anglage and gold chatons ain't their game. OTOH, the nicest GS movement IMO has to be those special edition GSs, especially the 9S85 SPECIAL movement. It has very nice anglage and a 18k gold medallion on the rotor. Having said that, the movement finishing on a Credor is on another level though. |

GS watches are really nice but Patek's case and movement finishing are nicer, IMO.

I don't mean to put down my GS Quartz, I am very happy with it, and considering the price, I think it's a great watch. It's not a Patek that cost 10x as much as it though. |

Thanks William for taking time off to share.
And Nill, I'm sold to that SBGW039. Even its text "Grand Seiko" is applied! I love these little details. These 5196 and 5127 have printed fonts? Or is it my eyes? Nill, thank you so much for all these side-by-side comparisons. Thank you for taking time to edit and share. |
