Hello From Texas

Hello! My name is Tom and I'm an incoming senior in college.

I'm an Engineering major and have appreciated the craftsmanship and precision that goes into watchmaking ever since I was given a broken pocket watch to tinker with as a young child.

I'm looking to purchase my first Rolex (probably a 36mm Explorer I) within the next few months. I decided to join in order to observe and learn about the intricacies of the different Rolex models and how to make an informed decision when purchasing a used Rolex.

Explorer 1 is a great first Rolex. My favorite is the 14270

I'm a new member as well, Mark Taylor aka: Game Guard on this Forum, I want to tell all members hello, and good luck in all searches acquisitions etc. Some posts I have read in the Watch Out area are a little disturbing, but with today's times it is comprehensible, though unacceptable from many sources, my personal opinion or thoughts would be a face to face transaction with an authorized Rolex dealer or jeweler, and if pre-owned Rolex "for myself" it would definitely have to carry all legitimate paperwork, and the AD would need to take it apart as I witness it and reveal all numbers accordingly, bracelet included, case etc. I don't think there would be many on this site that will disagree, especially for a "first rolex" purchase if your first one is to be pre- owned. Good luck in your search Tom, use due diligence.

You are going a little overboard, IMO. Just stay away from eBay and buy from an AD or a forum Trusted Seller, and you won't have to take the watch apart for verification.

How do you tell if a user is a forum Trusted Seller?

Look in the "Who's Who" section...plenty of trusted seller references there.
