What wipe is safe?

I know some of you use special cleaning solution and some of you just use soap water to clean your watch?
How about baby wipes or antibacterial wipes? I assume they are safe on watches since it's mostly sapphire and metal? I find wipes much more convenient but wondering whether I'm doing it wrong.

Thanks

I don’t advise using anything with alcohol because it can potentially dry out the gaskets and seals.

But if your watch never gets wet, use whatever you want.

Moist lens wipes are best.

Eyeglass lens cloths second.

Spit and your shirt also works.

Practically any wipe would be just fine if that is what you want to use.

If you don't have to put on haz-mat gear to use it, it shouldn't harm any part of your watch.

Ah ok didn't think about that. so you mean the area around the crown and pushers are best avoided with any wipes with alcohol. Got it. Thanks

I like these from Vareat. They have a good watch care product line including spray cleaners. Lens wipes are fine too.

The 'o' rings on Rolex watches are not made of chocolate.

Wipes with alcohols and other cleaners will have no effect on them.

I have dosing pumps in my scrubber systems with similar 'o' rings pumping concentrated sulphuric acid.

There are watch 'o' rings available in EPDM and I see no reason why Rolex wouldn't use the best.

Alcohol will not affect the seals, nor can you do much where any alcohol will ever get to them, except superficially.

Nitrile, Viton, and Hytrel, used in modern gaskets were developed to withstand fuels, chemicals, and acids.

Naturally, if you are concerned, use the baby wipes in a low pressure circling motion, followed by only the finest Giza cotton micro fiber clothes.

Never in a circular motion and especially on highly polished surfaces. Always try to move in a linear motion and across the breadth of the polished surfaces but try to stay off the corners

But seriously, I have never had a problem with any Rolex and they have been accidentally dunked into and splashed a little with all manner of things including various types of paint thinners(which i really shouldn't have been playing with) and some aviation fuel once.

Anti bacterial wipes may be of some limited benefit against Coronavirus.
But even some dish soap and warm water will suffice.

just clean and rinse with soap and water, wipe with normal paper towel to dry, then use a Jewelry polishing cloth to give it a quick polish.

I wouldn't use any alcohol wipes unless you are returning from China...LOL!

If you're looking for a quick clean, just wear it and run the faucet and wash it with your hands.

A better clean, I use wrist clean by varaet. I'll spray this stuff on it, let it set for about a minute, then with my fingers clean and rinse it under a running tap of water. Then dry with a micro fibre towel.

Disregard. Apparently it’s harmless. Honestly I just clean my watches with dish soap and water at the end of every rotation.

My wife is a germ freak. So all my protests notwithstanding, she’s done the alcohol wipe cleaning on every one of them if she sees them lying outside. Don’t think it’s harmful in any way.

My t-shirt works well. My watch is made of metal and is waterproof so I'm not particularly worried about using my gf make-up wipes either. All the crazies come out for these posts and i love it. Who's up for unicorn tears. They work best

What wipe is safe?

Wash it under tap and let it air dry or dry it with your shirt, or a kitchen rag, or a bathroom towel, or some dirty clothes, or the edge of a couch cushion, etc.

Just don’t use sandpaper.

I usually just stick to using a damp cloth to wipe oils and dirt away and maybe a brush to brush away gunk and dust.

I've thought about using an ultra sonic cleaner but it seems risky due to the way it cleans using vibrations.
