Too bulky for me, but love the polar dial.

Agree with you on wrist size vs case size. I wish I can convince my eyes to accept the look of the 40mm case on my wrist buy so far I failed.
The SD43 came in the game and when I tried it on I immediately felt the need to have one.
The Explorer 42 is a stunning watch and goes so well with different types of straps that pictures you shows prove the point. Also love the GMT function which I completely missed it there until so lately !

I get it that its too big for some. Trust me, I wish a Sub or GMT worked for me but they just don’t. For those of us who need a bigger watch, its a welcome addition.

So its either the Explorer 2 or the Sea Dweller. Tried both on and while the SD43 is stunning, its quite a bit heavier and would be a lot of watch to wear every day. The Explorer 2 felt perfect and I do value the GMT functionality. Throw in the fact that the price is well under 1/2 of the SD43 on the open market and I’m sold.

I have more or less settled on the black face but both are great. What has surprised me the most though is how versatile it is. I don’t think I would ever take the SD43 off the bracelet just because it needs the balance but the Explorer 2 is a veritable strap monster. These are all pics I found online, not my watch but you get the point.

I was debating between the 2 polar dial models, but I felt the 16570 looked a bit more tidy in terms of the dial, probably due to the GMT hand, and the 16570 was available in my birthyear. But I can appreciate both!

I've had white and now black. Absolutely a great watch. Size of dial helps legibility for my old eyes.

My favorite Rolex. Gets way more wrist time then my Hulk, Daytona or Batman. Just love the legibility and the touch of orange.

I just had a call last week from my AD. I'm waiting on a 39mm Explorer and he got in a black dial Explorer 2 and called me to see if I wanted it instead of waiting for the 39mm. It's a great watch and I like everything about it. Its just to big for me so I decided to keep waiting for the 39mm. Been waiting a little over a month now.

Not trying to trigger anyone but here is my honest opinion and an opinion only.

The watch is a great looking watch, I truly like it. I would buy one if I could try one on to be sure it would fit my wrist properly. On some larger average sized wrists it looks just fine but on many average sized wrists it looks too big (mainly the white dial). I see picture after picture on smaller wrists and it looks funny no matter how many times I see it, I just can't get used to it. If it doesn't bother the person wearing it, go for it.

Just bought mine last week here on TRF. Love it! I have a 8” wrist and large hands and it is perfect. My Sub was just too small.

It's not as universally appreciated as the other models and thats fine. Maybe the face, the case size, the hands? Who wants the same watch as everyone else anyway. Too big for me. So I chose something different

Is anybody else feeling tons of love for their 216570 in light on the new Sub? Turns out it's not too big after all, the maxi case actually looks better north of 40mm relieved of the squat, chunky lugs and crowded indices. I can't speak for everyone, but 39 years of an American diet has given my wrist enough real estate to accommodate 42mm, imo the steel sports Rolex you can buy at an AD has been the underground champ all along.

Exp2 has always been a great watch imo both 5 and 6 digits. I prefer the 40mm Exp2, but both nice

love my black dial ex 2. even the grey market is starting to get stiffen up on them. used to sell below retail just a few months and now seem to be trending a few 100 over. also, fk the grey market.

The problem with the Exp.II 42mm, is the lug to lug and bracelet end link to end link size.

Its current size puts it out of a comfortable wear for a lot of folks with less than 7” wrist. Anything smaller than a 7” wrist, and you’d have lugs and end links going past your wrist. It looks hideous on my wrist!

Ie., the reason I still own a 40mm Exp.II. Love the watch, hate the fit.

I owned one. The proportions always seemed a bit off. I have larger wrists and liked the larger dial, but the visual seemed off to me. Good value, but I’m not a big fan of it. A 41mm version wi th better proportions could be beautiful.

It’s a cool watch for sure but the GMT with a rotatable bezel just makes more sense to me.

My wrist at 7" I never thought it looked too big. Its very comfortable and sits low. Slim tapered lugs and smaller twinlock crown and guards keep it compact as possible for 42mm. Love the sheen of the finely brushed bezel as well as the taper from 21 to 17mm on its brushed bracelet. I have to say I even like it a little more than my Blnr.
