How to go about

I am about a year away from being ready to buy the Yacht Master on Oysterflex. Not sure what the AD will have in stock, but didn’t know if it was too early to enquire about the Watch. Since it is a PM watch, hopefully it won’t be hard to find/ order if not in stock. I have no prior purchase history with this AD.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Shouldn’t take too long, it’s not super popular and quite expensive. The AD will be happy.

If your a year away from being ready to buy a Rolex dont bother going to the AD then.

In a year time you will see two more Baselworlds and maybe your ideas will change.

Even if your certain with your choice, the AD might get tell you that you need to wait a year but can get you the watch even in a month you never know. And, at that time you need cash ready to buy the watch immediately upon the call. So its kinda one shot thing.

I would only enquire about a watch when the funds are available and I am ready to buy then and there.

I see. Makes total sense. Wasn’t sure how the process worked.

Nothing wrong with telling them what you want and that you won’t be ready to buy for a year. At least then if they get one 9-10
Months from now they can earmark it for you

visit a few ADs a month or two before you're ready just in case they have to order one, you'll prob be able to get a small discount too, especially if you find one in stock

Some dealers will do layaway. Put money down and then pay every month for a year.

That sounds like a good plan. Introduce myself to an SA.

Got mine in 1 month with a purchase history but precious metal ym aren’t super hot. Ym37 I’d imagine you’ll get it pretty quick so like people have said when you start the chat make sure you’re in a position to buy when they produce it. Nothing worse for the ad to produce the watch and you don’t go through with it.

I bought one about a year ago. I had trouble finding one in LA, but eventually got a hold of one. ADs were not willing to discount, when only about 6 months prior to that they were. I don't know the current state of affairs, but I think you should be able to find one without too much effort in a year.

Stop in and let them know your plans. If nothing else, they still get to know you and maybe give you access to more difficult references in the future.

I am not concerned in the discount aspect has I have my budget planned out assuming no discount. So no worries there. I just do not want to be in the position where I have the cash ready to go, I enquire about it, and am told its a 3- 6 month wait. In a perfect world (which we do not live in), I enquire about it around December of this year/January next year, and I have it in March of next year. I know it is 12 months away, but I like planning big purchases out in advance. Thanks for the insight.

If you don’t have a purchase history with an AD, best to go to a small town AD and shop around a couple different ones and tell them exactly what you told the forum here. They’ll help you out.

I’d avoid the ADs in crowded areas/big cities, they won’t be bothered.

I would wait till I was close to having the cash ready to go. I agree a PM YM should not be
that tough to acquire. Spend a month interviewing AD/SA s and find the one, especially the SA, you really connect with. Its not about this watch its about the next watch(es) you may purchase down the line. A approximately 30k PM purchase will say a lot about you as a future client.

I wouldn’t do anything and just keep saving till I’m near ready. A year from now there’s new models for this year and next year that might change your mind.
Also you might get a good deal on a used one by then.

Funny you say this. Current market for the oysterflex yachtmaster is not so hot. In LA apparently everything on oysterflex is hot AD said they would put me on the list. Such a joke...

I am talking about the 37mm Rose Gold. It’s list is $23,250 I believe.

I know you can get a deal on a used one, but since this will be my 1st Rolex, I’m set on using an AD.
