Would you trade a Rolex for a Vacheron

Hey guys,

I went in my AD and took a look at a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time 7900V. They had it in the white dial but could, of course, also supply a blue dial.

Now at the moment i'm saving my money to be able to buy a PP 5212A when it comes along so I told the AD that I liked the watch but didn't want to burn the money. He offered to buy back my Rolex Sky-Dweller (SS white dial) that i just bought in November 2019 in trade. He told me he would make me an offer........

Today the offer came in and I wasn't to disappointed about the price. He offered me 1K above the retail I paid for the Sky-Dweller and asked 21K in euro (instead 24.600 list price) for the Vacheron. I can probably get a grant extra off if i try.

Now I do have three Rolexxes (Air-King ('19), Explorer II('11) and the Sky('19)) and do not own a Vacheron. I have sympathy for the heritage of Vacheron BUT... I do not know if I dare to pull the trigger.

So I need some external guidance....... What would you do ????

If the prices/value were comparable, I would go with the one I liked more.

If it was me personally I would do it. The current gen of the overseas is amazing and I would recommend anyone to add one to their collection. Seeing that you already have Rolexes I would pull the trigger. The blue dial dual time is amazing in person. I favor the second gen dual time though because I personally like their older style better on the Dual Time. The 3rd gen chrono and 3 hander version is definitely better than gen 2 IMO.

I love the new Overseas line and would strongly consider it. Just how much do you like and wear the SkyD? If you think it's something you'll miss, then pass. Otherwise go all in.

I would

The SkyDweller does not fit my wrist and I have no interest in the complication.

Sure why not. I would go blue dial here to soften the blow if you ever sell.

Tough call. Love the Sky Dweller, but the VC in blue is stunning. Good luck!

I, too, prefer the VC...but I might look at if you can get more value selling to DavidSW or a similar grey dealer first.

It’s a fair offer for the sky dweller.

Sky dweller is my
Favorite watch though (atm)

No, the style is not my bag. I would have one in the collection though. I like VC better than the AP RO chrono.

VC has no appeal to me, so I wouldn't make the trade.

I would, but the SkyDweller is meh to me and the Vacheron is beautiful.

Worth a punt, esp for the rich blue dial, I took a chance on a gen 2 VCO last year and it didn't take, had too much going on for me, but you never know unless you try and altho it had the impressive guilloche dial it wasn't the nice new blue dial.

I could actually trade in for that, but it also depends on which you like more and is more efficient...

Or you might end up regretting...

I would trade a Rolex for a VC every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Not even close.

I have a VCO3 and there is no Rolex I would trade for it. It's objectively the best Steel Sports watch including the 5711 and 15500.

If you don't love the looks then keep your Rolex as looks are not objective.

It's a beautiful watch. It doesn't fire any of my synapses, but if it did, I would save up for one. No way would I flip my Sky Dweller for it. Your mileage may vary. Do what your heart tells you.

I much prefer the 2nd Gen of the 3 hander, the white dial is easily my favorite VC over 2nd or 3rd Gen dual time, chrono, etc. I would probably do it to though for a 3rd gen blue dial, but moreso because I'm not a huge fan of the skyD.

I'm a Rolex guy, but I'd go for the VC. VC is haute horology...a step up from Rolex, which I consider luxury horology. But, as they say, go with what sings to you...that's what really matters.
