50th Anniversary Daytona Owners Poll
Pulling up the Platona Owners thread I started thinking that I see fewer posts with the Platinum Daytona; I'm curious how many still own them? I thought I'd do a timely check to see what's up?
Post a photo and click on your choice; owner's without photos will be discounted as owners. I'll start with today's photo. (Yeah I know photos can be obtained from other sources). |

50th Anniversary Daytona Owners Poll
Interesting. To be fair, most of the new threads on TRF aren’t original. Mostly repetitive with incomings, complaints towards SS scarcity, value or other questions that have been asked many times prior.

Coming close to purchasing means nothing but I really regret not going for one listed at 34k GBP (44k USD) back in 2014/15.
It had been sitting at a grey dealer for a while, unworn, I think up at 36-38k GBP for a while and he offered it to me at discount. I passed. I hadn't spent that much on a watch prior. It really is something else so congrats on the yes men in this poll. Funny enough I own a couple of PM Daytonas since but I always regret missing out on that one. Its 20k more now. |

I don't really like the term 'grail' but if I had to label a watch a grail piece, it would be the Paltona for sure. Love it.

These polls are going to have very small participation numbers either way. The two guys I know with one aren't on TRF to vote and it seems like many members who did have one either sold to get something else or are no longer active. But, these watches are still out there in good numbers.

I own the white dial SS ceramic. I have zero interest in the platinum Daytona. To me its ugly (colors) and overly heavy.

Don’t own one and doubt I ever will, but it is a stunning watch. Tried one on at the AD years, and it was amazing.

So from the photographic evidence it looks like there are three!!!
In the prior poll I posted there was no request for evidence. 23 professed to own one and 9 to have sold one. Not too likely. |

If it was within my means I would own it without doubt, for now I’ll have to make do with photos.

I remember admiring a doctor’s Platona here before. He wore it racing his porsches. He doesn’t have it anymore?

I’m coming up to 4 years with mine now and still love it as much as the day I decided to consolidate my watch collection and sell 6 of my treasured watches to acquire it including a 116509.No regrets.I have further consolidated my watch collection since as a 5711R became available to me courtesy of my local PP AD so now these are my only 2 ‘premium’ watches, with 2 Seiko Alpinists and (heaven forbid!) a Hermes Apple Watch Series 5 as my daily wearers.

Don’t own one and would not own one. Color scheme is odd to me. To each their own.

Long time owner, but no longer. I’ll never say...never again, but, I just don’t need/want a Daytona at the moment, and not going to own one just “because it’s a Daytona” (hype). I typically move anything on, that’s not getting any wrist time, and that became the case for my Daytona. I still think the 6263 big red, and the PT Daytona are the best looking Daytona’s made! For me, right now, I’m preferring a bit simpler dials, & some larger pieces. I’m sure my interest will probably come back around to a daytona at some point, as I’m still a fan!

That's actually a pretty high owner count if I can say so IMO.

I'm in the owner camp, for now.
TBH, I've contemplated selling, though. No knocks on the watch-it's a spectacular piece. My dilemma is that my collection has just grown to the point it's unwieldy, and I'm just not sure I want more than one Daytona (the WG OF is not going anywhere), as I'm not really a chrono guy at heart. So...anyway, that's where I'm at, for now. |
