118238 vs 118239
Trying to decide between these 2 refs, most likely white dial with romans, any insight? Members with these watches can you post some pics? Perhaps some from a couple feet away, no inventory for me to try locally, thanks all!

WG all the way for me. I don’t suit YG and I like that the WG is quite a low profile piece but still a DD. Also much more rare. Still for some the YG/RG is the way to go. A DD is a DD and is an awesome watch which ever you go for.

I’d only go with the day date 40. It’s wears smaller than a true 40 and measures slightly over 39mm. My wrist is 6.75inches.
The 36mm ref is great but in all honesty doesn’t compare to the 40. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If your certain you want the 36mm... then I’d go yellow. Also if your going 36mm I’d go 5 digit. Prefer brushed lugs on the 36mm day dates

It kinda depends on what you consider is an upgrade... the 5 digits still feel hefty on the wrist. My specific 18038 had a slightly thicker case than the 1803 giving it a little more wrist presence. Certainly any 6 digit rolex is an upgrade from 5 digit usually more in the bracelets and clasps but is it worth the increased amount? That’s subjective.... to me it’s not worth it in the 36mm.... the premium for the 40... ssoooo worth it.

My wrist is a shade shy of 7 inches...really enjoy my 18239. Solid watch for the money and it sounds like a direction you might be willing to consider. No bad choice here, DDs are fantastic watches. Good luck picking! |

A few years ago I bought a mint-condition pre-owned 118238, sold my other watches, and thought the YG DD would be my one and only Rolex for the rest of my life. I loved the watch but found it attracted too much unwelcome attention so I sold it. Fast forward a couple years, I stumbled upon a seldom-worn pre-owned 118235 that seemed more subtle than my previous 118238 so, of course, I bought that RG DD. I loved that one too but still found it too attention-getting and eventually sold that one as well. Now I have one Rolex, a 114060 SubC. I do believe, however, that I could wear a 118239 comfortably but I just haven't seen the right one at the right time.

update I ended up grabbing a 118238 from the for sale section just back from RSC, all links, books ect. Seemed like the bracelet condition and buckle were really the big deciding factor for me. Yellow Gold White dial with romans, should be a show stopper.
BTW I am self employed and work from home 95% of the time, so the only attention I am worried about is my own lol steve |

I prefer WG generally, but if we’re talking 118 models, I find 238 to be the one to get. You get the gold but is less ostentatious. 228 model (or anything over 36mm) I’d opt for the WG.

I'm thinking the same for awhile I was thinking about the 118239 white roman dial with presidential bracelet but I am trying to find this one in white dial because I prefer a smooth bezel over a fluted.
