A Very Special Incoming

Last week I had the opportunity to buy one of two beautiful PM Rolex watches. A stunning everose Daytona with chocolate dial OR the exceptionally beautiful DD40 green anniversary dial.
My Birthday is tomorrow and I had always intended to buy a special piece and these were the two I had shortlisted.
I already own a DD40 with brown motif dial and i own a YG 116508 green dial Daytona, 116519LN OF Daytona as well as a steel Daytona (black dial).
My other half said I was crazy to consider either of these two pieces due to already owning similar models and I was inclined to agree, but then i tried the watches in question on...
I spent several sleeples nights trying to make a decision and in the end the stunning green roman numeral dial was too good to resist!
To me the Day Date 40 is a perfectly proportioned watch, the bracelet is up there with the best and that green dial just sets it apart from the rest. I definitely have a preference for everose gold over yellow gold, I find the warmer tone suits my skin better and is (slightly) more low key lol.
Many people may question my sanity buying the same reference i already own with a different dial...but they each have such unique identities and I look forward to enjoying this incredible piece for many years to come. I have included some pictures for comparison and I would love to know your thoughts...is it silly to buy the same watch with a slight difference in your opinion? Would you do the same? Either way I am extremely happy with my choice.
I also recieved a very welcome phone call from my AD about another potential VERY sought after piece that there may be an opportunity for me to acquire next month as a 'thank you' for my loyalty....watch this space!
I am well aware that we are all slightly 'crazy' when it comes to watches compared to the average person, but my goodness there is not much that makes me happier than a new Rolex!

For most of the population there’s nothing sane about dropping that much on a watch. So you can take comfort in knowing that we’re all crazy.
If you’re leaning towards the DD then there’s your answer. You can go wrong with either choice but that olive green dial is pretty special. Me personally I would go Daytona because you already have an amazing DD. But like I said, it sounds like you already know the answer.

Haha yes the fact that I am not alone in my 'hobby' (or obsession as my other half likes to call it) does give me some relief!
Just to clarify, I did indeed go with the DD40 and it is just fantastic and I am very pleased with my choice, it was a wonderful dilemma to have to be fair and I am forever thankful that I am in a position to make choices such as these :-)

My bad I should have read your post more carefully. And you even had the word incoming in your title lol.
Congratulations and Happy Birthday! I remember seeing this exact watch at my AD and telling myself that I’ll treat myself to this one day. Well done my friend.

Whilst I would love a full precious metal watch unfortunately they are a big no no as far as Mrs Oxfordian is concerned, far too much of an outlay. But I have to say congratulations on this latest edition to your stable, a beautiful timepiece, enjoy and wear in good health.

Happy birthday to you! Congratulations and sanity is overrated (and less fun).

My birthday is in a couple of weeks and I have my eye on a vintage DD myself. I’m hoping my sanity doesn’t get in the way (something tells me it won’t).

Happy birthday in advance Luke! If one had the desire, yes. If you're looking for a comparable example then you could bring up the case of the Nike Air Jordan series of basketball shoes and their myriad of colourways that sneakerheads collect. Enjoy your birthday and your watches in the best of health.

Thank you, I think it is definitely in the conversation! The platinum Daytona with the brown subdials is also up there in terms of looks, but i prefer the day/date funtion over the chronograph for sure.

I fully understand your predicament, my significant other felt very much the same a few years ago("how can you justify spending so much money etc etc!")...then i took her to the AD and bought her the Rolex of her choice (an oyster perpetual 34mm with Green dial). Since then she has started to really enjoy watches and is lusting over another piece (a RG bi metal 36mm datejust with rhodium dial) and seems to relate alot more to my penchant for watches! Before having her own she just couldn't understand how i could derive so much joy from buying and wearing watches.
I must say it is great to have her notice and name different watches that she spots on celebs etc on the TV!

That is an extremely good point! I am just grateful that watches are my only 'thing'! I have some friends who spend crazy money on certain Jordans and I just can't get my head around it lol

Happy birthday, Luke! Congratulations - adding it may be a tad excessive AND you're adding a fantastic watch. It gives you pleasure and that's all that counts, I think.

Cheers

Congrats on the watch.

Not to ruin it for you man but Rolex QC is craphouse on these sunburst dials. Your green dial sunburst is scratched like mine (circled in red). I sent it in for warranty TWICE!! because of all this crap.

Here is mine with the same scratches on the dial. RSC had to replace the dial TWICE!!!
