Speedmaster help/opinions

In the market for a Speedmaster and have it narrowed down to these 2:

https://cdn2.jomashop.com/media/cata...0.01.005_1.jpg

https://production-fratellowatches.n...uesday-018.jpg

Can obtain the Speedmaster Pro Moon new. The ‘57 re-edition would be bought used....most likely a 1998-2002 Watch. Price is about the same....the used watch a little less.

Something about the brushed tachy bezel and broad arrow hands has my attention but I really like the looks of both. I do like the fact that I can get the full box set new with the Speedmaster Pro Moon.

Have any of you Speedy owners considered both of these? Any reason to own one over the other? If so why?

Help/Thoughts?

Thx. and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Speedmaster Professional on a bracelet. I’ve owned over 75 watches over the past 30 years, and this is my favorite. Wearing it as I type.

Am I the only one who thinks the watch box is a bit ridiculous?

I wouldn't say ridiculous but I definitely prefer the red box. If not stored correctly it would fall apart but mine were all great.

I’m with you on this one. Exactly the reason why I never got a Speedy Pro. I have the FOIS instead with a smaller box but still not the small compact red box.

I vote for the Speedy Pro. Yes, the box and stuff is a little much, but a LNIB or NOS previous model 3570.50 with the more reasonable case costs just as much, so why not get the extras? You can always sell the extra straps and tool if you dislike them so much.

I also like the broad arrow hands, but I would try to get a 60th Anniversary '57 LE Speedy re-edition rather than the '57 Replica 3594.50 from the late '90s. The LE is truer to the original CK2915 and I personally prefer the case size and straight lugs.

I am waiting for a call from my AD to tell me my 60th Speedy has come in, but if I never receive it, I will probably buy the current Speedy Pro Moonwatch.

Go with Speedmaster Pro moonwatch.

The 57 reedition is nice, I like the broad arrow hand, but to my eyes the Speedy Pro with its baton hands has much better legibility. It’s easier to tell the time just by glancing at the dial, with or without glasses (I wear +2 glasses). I also have a Rolex Explorer which has mercedez hour hand, not that different from the broad arrow hand, it’s legible but when compared to my Speedy’s baton hands’ legibilty, the Speedy wins, hands down (no pun intended).

As for the box, yes it comes with a huge box...but don’t worry about it, you can stash it away and forget it.

I recommend the Speedmaster Professional. The dial in the '57 replica is cool (longer hour indices, less wordy), but I otherwise prefer the traits of the standard Speedmaster Pro because of the superior legibility noted by others in this thread, and also because I prefer the black bezel, which actually has a nice, glossy finish that goes well with the polished portions of the case.

Important: what ever watch you choose, please be sure it's equipped with the Hesalite crystal instead of sapphire. The Hesalite works better as a highly domed crystal, and it has a warm charm that sapphire can't match.

I wear a reference 3570.50, and I switch between its bracelet in the summer and the current OEM alligator strap/deployant in the cooler months. No matter what may come and go from my collection, I doubt I'll ever be without my Speedmaster Pro.
