I have 3 rolexes from 3 different eras. 1973, 2001, and now 2021.

I like listening to The Movement by putting the watch right up to my ear. My 2001 Sea-Dweller makes a completely different sound than my new datejust and of course the 70s Manual wind watch is also completely different.
As they go around in a minute, they each make about three or four very distinct different sound that change about every 15 seconds.

I like listening to the movement now and then and hearing the different tones that they each make throughout a minute.

I do the same. I find it quite relaxing listening to the "tippy tappy" sounds haha!

Basically all high beat 28800BPH movements sound the same no matter the brand. It's all down to the case thickness, space left in the case, and how the resonance is amplified by the escapement in the case, plus the person's ears.

Wow. My 16710 sounds musical - like some trancey Indian raga or something. And then every so often a slightly higher register “ding ding…………ding ding” will appear, completely in time of course. Surely some 20th century modern composer like John Cage, Philip Glass or Steve Reich has made music like this! Can’t believe I hadn’t noticed this before.

I do like the sounds that occur sometimes when I leave my watches on certain surfaces that amplify the sounds from the movement.

imo, many of the escapement vibrations are being transferred onto the secondshand and that has varying lengths, shapes and materials.
Whether you have a plexi crystal or a sapphire glass makes a difference as well.

The 3130s in my sub and OP do seem to ring with bell like overtones in a regular pattern throughout the minute, it does sound cool and I will listen sometimes at night. Maybe it's just in my head, though?

I love to listen to the Rolex. Especially before sleeping, when my arm with the watch is under my pillow, I can hear it well. It ticks me to sleep

I’ve done this with my watches, and I must admit, the 36k el primero is quite pleading to the ear. It genuinely astonished me a bit.

For real! I thought I was the only one who does this. hahahaha. I always listen to the movement of my rolex's. When I head to dealers and AD's, it one of the first things I do, wind the watch and listen to the movement.
