BLRO Pepsi Ceramic bezel color tonality.

I was quite surprised when I saw this thread on the Purist Forum. The OP went to Basel and stated that, I quote:
"As for the aesthetic of the bezel, the red is a beautiful colour, which in certain light has pinkish tone. The blue definitely has a purple overtone.'

He took some pictures that are consistent with his statement, that you will find hereafter.

Can someone who saw the watch in the flesh please confirm? Most of the pictures I have seen so far left me the impression that the red was deep and vivid and that the blue was darker too….

Well depending on the persons eyes, and the camera that took picture, plus computer screens, and the lighting many colours look different to most individuals.

The blue is definitely purpleish... Unlike the BLNR which is a deep blue. Personally I think that was a mistake as the BLNR blue is much nicer.

i would think it really depends on the lighting. if judging by pictures, then, there are many more variables (camera, processing, monitor, skill of cameraman).

This. Judging by how many people swear they have "green" chromalight, I'm of the opinion these color observations are all subjective.
I love the tones they picked.

In these pics it looks blue, both dark and fairly light, so it depends on lighting, camera white balance etc so best to wait to see one in the flesh.

It looks to me as if the red is a little brighter in the OP's photos than other pics I have seen...but as Neil says, I think you're going to have to see it in the flesh to really know.

Those pix are not color balanced, the whites have a lot of yellow (warmth) which add to the pink in the red.

I totally agree with this. Since it's ceramic there's always going to be a slight tone change. Even when you look at the black ceramic on the GMT II C. Sometimes its black, grey, or even white. My Sub LV C at some angles have a darker shade of green or lighter. But then again I am kind of color blind. SO I guess it depends on who's looking also.

I would tend to agree with the pink and the purple undertones statement. But they are just undertones and leaning towards them. All the photos I've seen look that way to me. Of course Ive not seen one in person, but all the different photos Ive seen are consistent with these observations. But the red and blue are beautiful and seem to be spot on to my eye. They are much richer and deeper hues that the aluminum bezels. Gorgeous watch!

This is no surprise, all of the ceramic models have this unique color-changing trait. The black sub almost looks charcoal grey in some light, the hulk goes from a light green to very dark green at times and this pepsi appears blue-purple.

I happen to think this is really cool.

These pictures depict the true colors as much as possible considering the lighting conditions. I adjusted the WB and didn't do any retouching or adjustments when processing the images. They were taken with my Leica while at Baselworld.

I can't wait to see it at the AD...HURRY UP ALREADY! HAHAH I feel like under different light (ie type of light, white light, type of bulb ect...) you'll get different looks. But I think it's probably pretty spot on to the 16710 aluminum bezel...that bezel red and blue brand new looks like how this looks in most pictures I've found or been sent.

In addition..and BLNR owners will know that the blue bit of the bezel changes character dramatically in different lighting..probably why that is my favorite SS piece at the moment.

Not to argue the issue of lighting, but I think the reality is probably more due to the chemistry of the colorant(s) used for creating the "red" and "blue".

Maybe some clues in US patent application 20130072373 A1?

Additionally, Rolex US Patent 7,897,253 B2 discusses the use of gold as colorant for red.

Using gold as a colorant can yield pinkish or magenta tones.

Fundamentally, the watch is beautiful.
