Because of the quality and precision that it represents, perfection in manufacturing. I have been in the tool and die business for 30 years, I believe in quality craftsmanship and perfection in what I make. It represents to me the quality of my work in an article specifically for my use. I like to think of the feeling of owning it, as of someone may apppreciate my labor.

Hey ktmd and tkerrmd, maybe it's time for us to visit a RSC for the sake of our patients to get the resurrection complication on our watches fixed!

JustABreathAway, I think it's terrific that you are enjoying the fruits of your labour and derive such satisfaction from your spectacular timepiece which has so much meaning for you.

Anyway, I wear a Rolex because when I decided to take the plunge into the world of automatic watches (long time marveller of mechanical watches, but quite a paradigm shift in terms of ownership being accustomed to set and forget quartz) I wanted to have one which was special. The submariner initially caught my eye for its aesthetics. Then I researched into its history, and learning of its heritage, its place in dive watch innovation and the robustness of its movement, my mind was made up that this was indeed the special watch for me.

In case you were wondering, I'm an anesthesiologist. I have about 5 minutes with a person before I really do administer poisons that would have them dead in another 5 minutes, were it not for my ministrations. You're never as close to death as you are when you're under anesthesia, except when you actually are dead. That's why I chose the above phrasing.

We're actually in the same field! Actually your phrasing is quite poetic when put in the context of anaesthesia / anesthesiology!

I wear mine to remind myself that hard work does have its rewards. And I love to run into old friends, that thought I would turn out to be a deadbeat, wearing a Rolex!

[QUOTE=JustABreathAway;3030819]To repeat a theme, my Rolex signifies accomplishment and achievement. My time piece represents the decades and hundreds of thousands of hours that have gone into becoming a fully board certified specialist physician and owner of a successful medical practice. My Rolex says that I am firmly and very proudly ensconced in the Top 1%, but that I got and stay here with work that benefits humanity while greatly increasing the quality of life for those in my care. My watch says that I will keep you alive when you would otherwise be dead, and I will bring you back to life if you do die. Because it is a Rolex, my watch never gets tired of constantly saying so much, and so much more.[/QUOT

Just a bit over the top. Sometimes a little humility would let you wear a smaller hat size.

I didn't attack you in the least. Why do you feel the need to do so to me? I thought I explained myself very well. Please refrain from unprovoked attacks on me in the future.

I don't wear a Rolex - but it's only a matter of time before I do.
I really like the idea of being able to service/repair something for ever. It seems to me that nothing else is like that nowadays.

Because it is nice to own something that is so beautiful and well designed and well built (and it is a bit more affordable than a Porsche).

Simply because I like it.

I have some important clients in the mining industry where gold is important, thus I like to rock the gold.

Well, I don't wear a Rolex YET... Trying to decide which one to get as we "speak". I want to wear a Rolex because it says "I've made it". It shows that I've busted my rear to get where I am. That I can make a great living without a degree despite what others have said. It shows I have taste, class and appreciate the finer things in life. Is also enjoy great firearms and I'll end it with this line... In A World Of Compromise Some Men Don't" That's why I want a Rolex

I don't think that it was an attack. Just a small comment on humility, but I think that the message was lost on you...

As a sign of accomplishment, it was something that always seems just out of reach and that I've wanted for 25 years.
