I agree with Dr., people will buy them, probably more people than we think.

Most were saying pass on the rainbow Daytona and now they are difficult to get at a decent price. As soon as Rolex stopped making them they became more desirable.

It's a beautifully made watch for sure. But at that price, I'm an admirer, not a buyer.

I can see these would be very popular with the ladies as a combination of watch and costume jewelry. They are very pretty. Would look fabulous on an attractive feminine arm.

Jack from Hodinkee:

"Well, you know, it's actually a legitimate point. Look at it this way. Possibility 1 is that a watch is successful as an example of that type of watch --in which case, I could indulge myself in saying I personally dislike it, but that would be useless to the reader unless they were just dying to know my personal tastes. The second possibility is that it is in some way a design failure even for that type of watch --and God knows, they are out there. The reality is, HODINKEE is pretty much run by watch enthusiasts, for watch enthusiasts --I mean, Ben's obsession is clear for all to see and though I'm a new face to a lot of HODINKEE readers, I've been active both as an enthusiast first, and then a full time media guy, in watches, for a grand total of at least fifteen years; I can remember getting into heated arguments about Rolexes back in the 90s on Usenet, believe it or not, when the only place to fight with other people about watches online was alt.horology. The tl;dr version of all this is that we tend to write about watches we actually like, or at least watches we find interesting. Would I spend close to a hundred grand of my own money on a Pearlmaster as my first choice? I absolutely wouldn't and they're not to my taste. But they _are_ extremely well made, beautifully crafted watches with some of the most meticulously careful gem selection, cutting, and setting that I have seen in over a decade of looking at watches full time, every day, and I can appreciate what what into them, thanks to my having had some exposure to what really top level horological gem-setting actually entails. I could have gone on some rant about how these watches don't fit my personal tastes, but that would be a disservice to readers as well as inherently totally uninteresting. Exactly as you note, it's really all about options and keeping an open mind. Thanks for the comment! --Jack"

While I can appreciate the workmanship I'd pass, different strokes for different folks though!

To sum up, we get advertising money from Rolex so we like everything and may not seem critical of anything.. Ok, thanks, got it.

These "watches" have nothing to do with watches and is merely bling for people who actually think it is cool to show off. Leave it for reality stars and its like, please.

They're beautiful. And I can appreciate the work & craftsmanship that goes into making them... but they're just not for me.

Each to their own. As my mother used to say, "It would be a boring world, Trevor, if we all only liked all the same stuff."
