Black is more conservative and looks great. No arguments there!

But blue stands out too much?! I’m pretty sure the blue dial color does not stand out as much as the Royal Oak bracelet (which is awesome). If you’re that conservative, you should probably avoid the bracelet.

Those aren’t possible to get and the list is years out” and I would say “no, black dial” and I would then hear the salesperson breathe a sigh of relief I didn’t want a blue. I had NO IDEA the blue dial was so sought after — I just don’t get it. My natural favorite is the 15500. Lack dial, it just looks quite classic whereas the blue seems so... nuevo riche. Not saying it isn’t gorgeous, it is, but it just doesn’t appeal to me like the black does. Has anyone else been living under a rock and not realized how popular the blue was?

Frankly, I find it a bit annoying that anyone I tell that I’m buying the 15500 black dial often will ask if it is because I can’t get the blue instead. The answer is always the same, that I prefer the black.
No, you're not alone.

I'm a lover of blue dials, both sunburst blue (BP fifty fathoms, rolex YM), as well as matte blue dials like in the new ROOC 26480ti.

There is something 'meh' for me about the blue dials on the 15450 and 15400, having owned the former in blue.

When I later acquired my 15400 White dial, I was told by my boutique guy that the best dial for the RO--in his opinion-- was black. I didn't see/get it then, but I do now. I think he's spot on.

The black just goes beautifully with the case and bracelet.

When I wear my 15202 and the lighting conditions are dim, I love the say the way the jumbo looks, as it takes on a darker hue-- vs how it looks under brighter light.

Why would anyone choose an RO in a color OTHER than blue!?

I have the blue. I love the blue. The black dial also looks great but personally I like the blue and I also like the investment / hunt / found aspect of it since it is hard to get. I like my Pepsi for the same reason. Paid retail for all, and that took hunting, relationship building, work and patience. That was the sport of it. I don’t know if that makes me nouveau riche or not mais, je m'en fiche.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the Royal Oak blue dial?

Nice. It’s a shame you weren’t able to get the blue.

The blue is beautiful, it's just a matter of taste, I enjoy the Stern Freres white dial very much. Looking back, I might have bought the 15202 I was offered two years ago but am quite satisfied with my single AP.

Blue dials are my personal favorite.
I think first and foremost ask yourself if you like blue dials?
Nicest blue dial I have ever seen is PP 5980-1ar which is what that use on the 5711p also.
Actually I saw the 5980-1ar today again. Just stunning blue!
AP boutique blue and 15500 blue is really nice too which
would slightly be my choice over white/silver (which is not on 15500 yet).
Certainly my choice over grey or black.
I personally like the lighter shade of blue vs darker navy and some sunburst qualities
better than flat or matte.

Blue dial is very nice and quite popular, but not only with AP.
Many blue dial have premium over other colours. Best I can think of is the Journe Chrono Bleu, also Nautilus, VC etc...
Now there is no right or wrong here, just a taste. If you want black, better for you, they are more available.
