Navitimer vs Speedmaster

Hello All,

So I am looking to get a chrono and I am having a hard time deciding between a breitling navitimer or an Omega Speedmaster.

I like and respect both but would go for the Omega due to readability. They both have a very good pedigree.

You could be happy either way, but they are very different.

Which one have you tried on?
Which fits the best?
Bracelet or strap?

Yeah, I have to say this is the Navitimer I would be considering.

Between the Speedmaster Pro and the standard Navitimer as shown in your photo, I think I would go with the Speedmaster Pro, mainly because I prefer its legibility and simplicity as compared to that Navitimer. Also, the way bright sunlight works on the Speedmaster's dial through that plastic crystal is pretty cool

I have owned both a Navitimer 01 Limited Edition as well as the moonwatch and here’s my opinion as I’ve owned them for a while. I’ve also owned many other Omegas.

Legibility wise, the Speedmaster is simpler so it will be easier to read although I have no issues telling the time on the Navitimer either.

Movement wise, the Navitimer 01 wins. It has a longer power reserve and the movement itself is a lot more complicated(column wheel, vertical clutch and so on). The B01 movement is a beast and way more complicated than the 1861 movement.

Build quality is good on both but the Navitimer wins here also. The dial is made of solid silver and has applied indexes as well as snailing and other touches. A lot goes into the Navitimer dial and you can see it!.

I know this is a simple comparison but in my opinion, the Navitimer is the higher quality piece no doubt!. There’s a lot more to it than the Speedmaster. The Speedmaster is a very nice watch but the Navitimer 01 is on a different level.

I enjoy wearing both but if I had to pick one, it would be the Navitimer 01!.

I have both but Breitling Navitimer stands out.

I owned a navitimer (the soap 75th anniversary model) and currently own the moonwatch. Needed to flip one, and ended up flipping the Navi. Hard to say why. I think the moonwatch appears more vintage which is more consistent with my style. The moonwatch looks great with all kind of straps and bracelets as well.

I disagree with others here on legibility. Never had any issue with the Navi and found it far better than my Daytona in terms of readability. I do like the new reissue they just released and can see myself one day strapping on another Navi.

Neither one is objectively better than the other. You just have to choose the one that you love the most when you strap it on. Either way you win.

I had the Sinn 903 Navitimer......could not get used to the busy dial.....got the Speedmaster FOIS......every tom, dick & mary have the pro model, I wanted something different. I’m very chuffed with the FOIS.

Navitimer only if it's the new reissue, that one I prefer to the Speedy.

Vs any other Navitimer and Speedy wins.

I agree with the above. In addition, while both are iconic, the speedster has always struck me more as a plain watch. The Navitimer is quite unique for what it is, very rare to find a comparable watch with spike edged bezel, slide rule, and multiple dial rings (due to the slide rule).

The Navitimer dial is just too busy for me. I like the simple elegance and superior legibility of the Speedmaster.

Both the Navitimer and Speedmaster are Beautiful Chronographs! Either one would be a perfect choice! But for me I’d definitely choose the Speedmaster! So versatile and my favorite watch to wear! I wear it almost everyday and absolutely love it

Both are icons but if I had to choose one it would be the Speedmaster due to its better legibility and versatility. I have the sapphire sandwich version and it's among my favorite watches but I've also considered getting the updated 43mm version of the Navitimer.

The Speedmaster first, followed by the Navitimer.

Speedmaster.
Along with the Rolex submariner, the most iconic watch ever made, imho!

I have both but wear the Speedy much more often because it's just much easier to read. Aesthetically, I find the Navitimer a little more classic and elaborately designed. But I really only wear it on a few occasions.

I have a speedy and a re-issue navitimer, love both but the speedy ends up on my wrist more.
