FS: IWC Schaffhausen - Engineering Time Since 1868 - $175.00 OBRO

Good Afternoon,

I have for sale a very nice edition of IWC Schaffhausen - Engineering Time Since 1868. There is no better recap on this book than the one from Hodinkee below. This is a must have for IWC collectors. I am looking for $175.00 OBRO. I will cover shipping CONUS. Please email me at axjimenez@yahoo.com if you are interested.

There are many good reasons to read the 500 pages of this masterful book dedicated to IWC. Its first chapters provide an insight into the fascinating history of a Swiss Manufacture created in 1868 by an American watchmaker from Boston in order to conquer the booming US market. The remainder of the book offers a detailed account of the revolutionary timepieces that marked IWC’s history, like the giant Portuguese, made after a special order in 1938. 40 detailed pages later, you can learn everything about the Ingenieur, engineered by Albert Pellaton, who was also the father of the much admired caliber 89.

In short, this volume narrates a fundamental side of the watchmaking history where IWC’s contribution is often overlooked. Indeed, IWC watches often introduced ground-breaking innovations to master precision and face harsh conditions. Also, let’s not forget IWC’s cheeky sense of marketing advocating to “Handle Without Care” the resilient Ingenieur, or to “Please call a doctor if this watch stops. It means you haven’t moved for seven days,” for the Portuguese Automatic.

This is an obvious must read for any IWC enthusiast but its appeal extends much further, there is much to learn for any watch lover. And it is not only about pretty pictures and historical facts, you can also enjoy a compilation of short stories written by superstar Paulo Coelho and illustrated by the no-less famous Enki Bilal.
