I would rarely compliment a stranger but it is easier to do in a more social situation where you can discern their reactions better.

Well I don’t think he was worried about you robbing him, strolling with baby in a pram

As to your question, I generally don’t make a habit of commenting specifically on a watch. If I’m conversation with someone already and I think they are open to it, then I might say something

No and I would not want someone to do this to me.

The only exception is inside a watch store.

Few years ago I was checking in a German gues and I've spotted his Sinn U1 and told him " sir, this is the amount of your stay but it's gonna be totally on us if you leave me your watch " .
I always compliment other people watches, even if they are Casios..
Funnily enough I don't like when somebody does that to me. Yes..I always think about some robbery about to spark so I just walk away..

I compliment people all the time but usually refrain from saying "Hey dude your wife is really hot".

No. I wouldn’t. This world is far too crazy to be engaging random strangers about the watch they are wearing.

I'm pretty sure the RM52 "skull" is one of the rarest watches out there and one of the most faked Richard Mille.

Those aren't your "normal" $100k RM

I have a few times over the years. Never gotten a really warm or friendly response. Either a “yeah thanks” to a “it’s a fake” which it wasn’t.

Yes and been there done that, but also "depends" ...

And I would only compliment the watch if the watch is a "watch guy's watch", if you know what I mean.

e.g. I talked to complete stranger about his Sinn U2, Kobold Seal, or even Omega SM300 Spectre, etc. But not any kind of Rolex, AP, PP, Panerai (may depends, but definitely not one that's sitting on a OEM strap, haha).

I have in the past. Just an in passing. "That is a nice watch." Replies have usually been a pleasant "Thanks." Only once did it lead to conversation.

I have been complimented about five times for a SS Silver faced last model AirKing. Always by women. And once on my old SpeedMaster by a guy I was buying a car from. We talked watches for about 15 minutes.

Never have had a mention on any comments on any of my Subs or Daytonas.

So if you want to meet and impress the ladies... Get an AirKing. ;)

Did it today at a car dealership. Salesman had on a 16710, so did I. A simple “thank you, my dad gave it to me” was the response along with “I like yours as well”.

Yes, I do it all the time. Never had a negative experience. Sometimes it is obvious they are not WIS. Like when I say, "nice Sub" and they say "huh" and I say "your watch, nice watch" and they say "OH my ROLEX, Thanks"

People normally react pompously when someone compliments their expensive watch.

Not worth it IMO. most aren't enthusiasts -- they bought the watch to boost their ego, and compliments just validate them further. especially true with Rolex, RM, and AP

Thanks, did not know. Did you notice that they always seem to have an ample supply of Tudor models that are considered hard to get elsewhere.

they had all the BB's in there minus the GMT but yeah their stock is pretty decent.

GS is displayed very, very badly and its not doing the brand any favors for those who think its just a "seiko". Its in the way back in a display facing the wall. Its sharing room with TAG or some other brand of that nature. Disappointing as its really the best brand they carry in there minus maybe IWC but the really high end IWC isnt in there anyway.
