Here are some pics of different looks of the 116618LN. I chose this black as I find it way more useable. I can wear it with anything, suit, jeans, shorts etc.

Subs by there design have only one function which is a rotating bezel; GMTs have a rotating bezel plus an alternatively adjustable 24 hour hand which makes them more versatile by definition, imho.

I agree with you Lee....but, the one thing I can not look past especially in the warmer climates that Richard resides in and the GMT does not have.....glidelock. Priceless for me and maybe for Richard who is a 50 yr old speciman I like to refer to as "Zeus".

I just spit out my tea...lol “Zeus” ?? Well....thank you :)
Anyway, back to the subject... I have glidelock and easy link, and rarely do I use either, so no preference either way. If I’m spending significant time outside in the summer, it’s either exercising, working on a project, washing a car, etc....I typically don’t wear a Rolex for those activities. Your train of thought is right on though

I would agree and say the YG flat dial combo is more a Smurf combo. The sunburst, more Bluesy. But that's just my perspective

Definitely. They Datyona, even in PM wears more like a bracelet. The Sub has the caseback and case that imo are best with Glidelock in PM. The GMT Master in PM still has a flatter caseback, but I'd prefer if Rolex made an abbreviated Glidelock aka EasyLock for the GMT Master

Although the blue starburst dial is stunning, I feel the black dial will go with everything. Just my .02

Most versatile, best fitting , most durable watch. And the glide lock is just spectacular. And considering it’s all gold, between the maxi case and glide lock I feel that the sub physically has more gold on it then any other model. The heft is amazing

Most versatile would be the black dial sub...but if I was too buy one of these, it would be the blue dial for casual use only

IMHO it's gotta be the Blue Dial Sub

Most versatile yellow gold professional model...

Black dial sub. Explore the coloured dial variants only if you have multiple watches or have the basic ones covered. Versatility is the key here, as you mentioned.

As far PM Sub vs GMT, some find the GMT bezel with gold numbers fussy compared to the Sub. Especially since it’s in YG.

Black for everyday/most versatile. I think the GMT looks a little better but the Sub has the glidelock. It's a tossup.

The blue sub might be the most beautiful but it's a little too in your face to be the most versatile IMO.

I'm a sucker for green, and the YG GMT with green dial is incredibly sexy, so that is my choice.

I was torn between selecting a GMT model and Sub but there is nothing like having the blue sunburst dial with the PM. I have never tired of wearing mine. The green dial is very striking but I am not sure if that would continue.

I think black is definitely the most versatile however I’m not sure if I’d call it the best looking and if I’m going to whack the checking account for YG I’m not going with anything but the best looking!! I own the green dial GMT and would like to add the blue Sub once the wife calms down about the 5990 I just picked up :) Happy wife - Happy life!

I actually think that my 16618LB is better suited to casual wear (particularly shorts, soft shirts etc) than it is to formal clothing. If I was looking for a formal watch then I would opt for a DD .

No that’s considered a classic watch. Hence there’s no trip-lock crown. It’s still water resistant to 100m but u need to be a lot more careful if you take it swimming

I think the 116618LN is the most versatile but the blue sunburst dial is my favorite!
