Oysterdate Precicion won't fully wind

Hi Everyone

I bought a Rolex Oysterdate Precision a couple of weeks ago from eBay and think there may be a problem with the watch's winding mechanism. This is manual wind and as it's some years since I had such a watch I just gave it 20 quarter winds and checked how long it went for. It ran for about 12 hours so I gave it 30 quarter winds and it ran for about 15 hours. Given this watch should go for 48 hours or more I started to wind whilst feeling carefully for the fully would tension. This never happened even after 200 quarter winds. If I listen really carefully when winding there is a minor slipping noise every 7 winds or so. Is the watch faulty?

Also - I read that these watches click the date over in one go at midnight, but this watch starts to roll the date to half way from 11:30pm to midnight then at about 1 minute past midnight it clicks to the new date all in one go. Is this normal for an Oyster Precision? Could this indicate a fake?

The watch is a 1980s, I believe, and here's a photo:

Kind regards
Mike

sounds like there is a main spring meant for the automatic movement installed into your watch.
That with the fact that the model is precision and it's from ebay sounds like a winning combination. -Sorry to say.

I would check the movement ASAP, indeed.

Hi Kanikune

Many thanks for your advice. I think you're right. I've since agreed to return it to the seller - who was pretty good about it.
