How hard to fit 5167a strap on the 5167/1a case?

Title says it. Is it easy to do?

It is a little tricky because you have to deal with the springbar and the two pins that go into the case. I find it easiest to have the watch face down and use a tweezer-type tool (Bergeon 6825 or similar) to compress the springbar and then try to guide the pins into the case as you lower the band/springbar into place. You can put some painter's or electrical tape on the lugs first to reduce the risk of scratches.

You left one part out of the question - “without scratches”.

But it shouldn’t be troublesome and any scratches are hidden on underside.

I wouldn’t mess with it, but I suck at changing non-quick release, spring bars

As evidenced here

One further suggestion: Do as suggested above but hold the strap almost vertical to the underside of the case so you can position the 2 case alignment pins over the case holes and then with the spring bars compressed rotate the strap outwards so the pins begin to fit into the case holes as the spring bars pass down inside the lugs and into the lug holes. It's a little tricky the 1st time but with a quality compression tool it can rotate in place with one slow motion. Try it without the spring bars a few times to understand the simple rotating motion .... and be sure to use tape on the underside of the lugs. I use black plastic electrical tape and not blue painter's tape.

Will I need additional spring bars or will the spring bars from the stainless steel band work on the rubber?

Yes, there is somewhat a rotational movement where the pins rotate down into place and then the compressed springbar follows. You also right about a good springbar tool being essential.

I believe I had sparate springbars for the strap and bracelet.

Correction: I just put on a new Rubber B and tried blue painter's tape again and since it's thicker it offers more protection than electrical tape. Also, the slots in the Rubber B allow the spring bar ends to be fully compressed within the strap and drop nicely inside the lugs. Practice a few time compressing them before installing the strap.
