I have a 116610LN and even sleep with the watch on, the life is too short and I forget the money behind my watch, I only see the watch and enjoy it. For your question an omega would be a good choice, speedmaster moon.

Wear the watches you have or sell them and get a Seiko Casio or some other reasonably priced watch, which will perform exactly the same function ie tell you the time. They are all watches although some massage ones ego more than others.

To answer your question, with that budget, I’d look at an Explorer (though might be slightly out of the range), Speedy (great history, versatile), Panerai (used 000, 005 or 111), IWC Mark XVIII on bracelet or blue Tudor Pelagos (Black Bay and 58 being very similar to what you have).

When people talk about using a Rolex as a beater watch - this is the type of pic I’m always waiting for.

Love that watch hard to believe that it ever looked that way when you bought it

Posts like this want me to bang my head against the wall. Can't understand the disconnect, really!

Was at a neighborhood Xmas party several years ago. One of my neighbors who I didn't converse with very often seen me wearing a 16600 SD. He approached and proceeded to ask me how often I wear it. At the time, it was one of two pieces I had in the collection. When I told him 3 - 4 days per week, he almost came unglued. Explained to me that he had an Polar Explorer II he bought on vacation a few years ago. Keeps it in his safe and only brings it out on special occasions. When I tried to tell him it's "just a watch, wear it and enjoy it" he just could not wrap his head around that. It was "too precious" to him. He moved not too long after, and I have no idea if he ever changed his wearing habits. Shame, really!

"I wish I wore my Rolex less" or "One of my best accomplishments was keeping my watch minty and pristine" said no man on his deathbed EVER.

Just wear the ones you have and enjoy life's journey.

If you are going Rolex I would look at the 42 mm Polar Explorer II. Great wear and very rugged.

tears of happiness are streaming down my face

which begs the question, is it safe to wear your rolex in the presence of tears of happiness?

But if you don't wear and enjoy them after that search, what's the point?

Honest question.

Maybe look at omegas for that range- seamaster (new one) , speedmaster variants, Railmaster
Tudor GMT or black bay.
Speedy could be a potential winner

[QUOTE=Bladeshot;9133631]I have traded through many, many sports Rolex. You have 2 of the best! Like others suggested; wear them. I have full sets, and I’ll have them serviced someday when they need to be put back into original condition. Or perhaps my son will enjoy them and know the marks on them were made by me, and he will continue to add to those memories without polishing. Get them out and make some memories with the References you have. (Although it is always fun to keep adding and trading!)

If you are looking for enablement, how about adding a Tudor black bay or pelagos? I really like the blue Pelagos but it’s a bit too big for my 7” flat wrist. Tried it. Want to love it. Just can’t pull it off. Those should wear well since you are a big guy. For me, I stick to Rolex because we can trade them without taking the hit one does with other brands. Have fun ~ YOLO

Ty! Have a black bay in BNIB condition. I bought it, it just didn’t sing to me so I have it listed on the FS section. I’m sure your son will be delighted to wear your watches & make memories with them!

Back to your question on an addition with a 4-5k budget, there's nothing better than a omega speedmaster racing 40mm or a 42mm. It's a fine watch, fits the bill and gets you into a chronograph.
Speedmaster definitely growing on me.

Not looking at these as an investment as I probably won’t ever sell them. The speedmaster is gorgeous

These watches are versatile, durable, low-key, and a delight to wear every day.

These aren’t Picasso’s. They’re mass produced. They don’t all end up being Neuman Daytonas. The reason some of the old ones are so valuable is no one saw them as collectible back in the day and actually used them as they were meant. Today, everyone is saving the boxes, tags, even removed stickers are saved by some. Let your watch be your watch and enjoy as intended.

Check with an old guy, doubt you’ll find one that says he wished he kept his watches in mint condition by not wearing them as much!
I hear you loud & clear!
