President vs. Daytona in 18k
I am thinking about making my first Rolex purchase ... I have almost everything else, but a Rolex. I don't really know which way to go the President, or the Daytona .... any suggestions?
Also, I like to buy watches in gold, but is it worth it to spend the extra money with a Rolex? I really like the Daytona in stainless. Which Roles is the hardest to get right now? |

Daytona in SS is very popular.

Your choices are polar opposites IMHO.
You can't go wrong with your dressy gold DD vs SS Daytona dilemma. If it were my choice, though, it would be the Daytona with a white dial in SS.

I love the white dial! Such a nice touch that a lot of people don't go for. I agree with you here.

Out of the two in yellow gold,I'd go the DD with white dial and Roman numerals...
If it were white gold,I'd go the Daytona with meteorite dial... Best of all would be the Platinum DD and ice blue dial...... Hard choices, good luck!

I love my Presidential. It was passed on from my father who bought it in the 80's. It actually has Tiffany & Co. on the dial. Great watch. Looks the exact same as the ones they still make today.

You know I went threw the same question a while back when I was considering my first Gold Rolex... In the end I wanted something that would suit my style and lifestyle...
I went to different AD's over 2 weeks trying out different watches, dials, and versions and finally decided on this... and I love it!

It really depends if you want a more sporty vs. a more "dressy" watch (did I just say that? )... You can get pretty good deals on used DD's...

It depends if you want to be reminded of the day and date, or if you want to find out how long it takes to drive to the supermarket. I'd go for the Day-Date, or this
ps - It's Tuesday the 14th, and it takes me 2 minutes and 36 seconds. |

Nahh, just go right for a platinum DD from the beginning. That's what I did. If you want the top step and you can get it, just get it. There's no training involved in wearing a watch. It isn't like buying your first motorcycle or airplane to get some experience before moving up.

Your watch looks really good. How does platinium compare to steel in terms of weight, scratch resistance etc...?

I know that is the popular logic to have a "beater" and then a grail watch that you baby, but shouldn't the more expensive watch be the everyday watch instead? I mean, don't you want to maximize wrist time with the watch you spent the most money on? What are the benefits of "saving" the more expensive watch for special occasions, only to give all the wrist time to the "beater"?

This is exactly how I do it. My 126715 is my beater. It’s got a lot of “scars,” but I don’t care since I buy a watch to enjoy and wear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Chronograph Is My Choice
In my opinion, I like the Daytona.
When comparing a sport watch design to a dress watch design, there is a difference of course. My preference is the Daytona, since I lean towards sport designs. If I had my druthers, I would choose the Daytona, white gold, meteorite dial, with gold bracelet. |
