Is my Submariner Real?

Hi. I have a Submariner (Serial No. K754008) in brand new condition, and a dealer, subject to opening the back, felt it is real. It does have the crown etched under the crystal in the 6:00 position. However, upon opening it, we saw a plastic ring, as opposed to metal, around the movement. Is that the tell-tale sign of a fake? Help!

You need to post photos if you are asking for an opinion hard to do without

Plastic is never a good sign. Don't confuse it with the black rubber gasket.

Where did you get this “brand new sub”?

I suspect its from a shady origin, considering your willingness to open a brand new watch (and void warranty)

If it’s really brand new and there is a plastic ring (not gasket), then it’s fake.

Sounds very much like a fake.

Is there a grandfather invloved with this watch somewhere along the line?

OP needs 10 posts before being allowed to post pics.

As others mentioned, if the plastic ring is not a gasket, then the authenticity of the piece would certainly be suspect. Even dealers are getting fooled by super clones these days. You'd have to examine the movement under a loupe.

To be 100% certain, you can send the watch to a RSC and have Rolex officially look at it.

What is even real? Does your subjective experience you call reality make something real? Does a plastic ring negate your perception of what a Rolex is? If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, will you go blind? Such questions plague the human mind!

Plastic rings are used for smaller non-Rolex movements to take up the excess space inside the case, and hold these small movements in place.

Also, the coronet at 6 oclock is very hard to see, so it should not be as obvious as implied in this thread.

Doesn't look very promising to me.

Not a good sign when TRF mods move the post to the “watch out” section.

Good luck to the OP here. Hope isn’t lost, but it doesn’t sound good based on the description. I’d recommend posting pictures (easiest via Tapatalk ap) so the community can offer factual support

Your describing a replica with a cheap dg2813 movement, how you didn't pay much as it's likely worth about 50gbp, and whichever dealer was fooled by this once to retire!

You can spot a fake 3135 movement pretty easily, if the bridge for the balance has 2 levers like the cheaper ETA movements it's a clone, heres my genuine 3135 through my display caseback. notice the balance bridge compared with rep movement

Having seen no pictures, I feel quite strongly in my imagination that this watch is real.

For what it’s worth at this point, you don’t need a loupe to tell the 3135 clones from the Rolex 3135...

If the counterfeiters can put this much effort into an illegal and bogus watch, why don't they just make a legitimate one of their own brand and design? Seems like a better and more profitable way to me.
