Rolex and Porsche
Hi TRF fam,
I have been a long time Rolex fan but find myself drawn to Porsche in the recent months. I would like to get a 911 in the next few years and ask for your advice about how to go about finding a good used one. Though I only ever bought cars new, the value prop esp with the huge depreciation hit in year 1 and 2 makes going used very attractive. Also since this is TRF, here is the current state of the collection. 114060 (probably gets the most wrist time) 116710 BLNR 116500LN 116618LB 228238 Champagne diamond baguette Thanks for your help! |

What Porsche are you looking for? I sold mine to my brother a year or two ago and he made it a 10/10 and is considering selling it now.

It depends what you are looking for and by that I mean how old many would consider a true Porsche to be air cooled,I have been lucky enough to have had both an air cooled and now a later model they are all great cars to be honest.I see you are in the states you are blessed with lots to choose from with many cars with very low miles so buying should be easy enough all I would say is always get a car inspected by a professional (ppi) that should flag any potential problems.

The 996 turbo is probably a good choice if you’re looking to get a turbo. They have already started to appreciate in price after hitting rock bottom. If you are looking at 996tt/997tt, make sure you get the coolant fittings pinned if they aren’t already pinned. The photo is my car being towed because of this issue. It’s a known issues on these particular turbo cars and can happen when least expected. Other than that, people say good things about them. I’ve only put on a few hundred miles on mine since I owned it but it’s a beast. |

Take your time and do plenty of homework. Porsche can be a minefield just like Rolex!

like Marty said, lots of options, myself I'm a fan of the last of the air cooled (993) but modern variants are nice as well. Understand that basic maintenance is expensive. If it were me I'd be looking at 2-3 year old CPO (Porsche CPO program is tops)

It’s a 2013 991 heavily optioned. Think sticker was $110k or so. I was second owner and he’s technically third.

Rennlist and PCA is a good source for 911's for sale. Big difference between the 991 turbo and the S as far as price and performance. You have to be very patient to find the right car. Sounds like you have a decent budget which helps a lot.

Don't drive a turbo unless you can afford to buy one. You will never forget that feeling. |
