Only $20K??? I would think that your savings on the secondary market could be upwards of $45k, by the time you factor-in MSRP + sales tax (nearly 9%).
With that dollar difference, you could purchase another PP (5164?) or a reference for your spouse. The delta is just too great to be that mad at your wallet. In addition, if you plan on passing it down, your son or grandson probably won't give a hoot as to the name on the certificate.

If you just want it to have your name on it I wouldn t worry too much and take a preowned however a 5270 is a great entry to build a relationship with an AD and you may will benefit in your future purchases ,most likely that 20k could be narrowed if you have a talk with an AD .

As you haven't got any kids, your post implied you did but didn't yet have grandkids, then you are further removed from this being a legacy piece than I thought so maybe the head should do the thinking. |

I'd probably pay up for name / papers and still sell it 2-3 years later.

Keep the $20 K and put it in an index fund. Then in 25 years your heirs can use that money and buy another 5270P or a house in a nice neighborhood.

If you can buy a sealed 5270R for around 95K do it, you would be crazy not to buy at that price, even if it does have Stephens name on it. Just kidding but once you get the watch you'll never look at the certificate, I bought a new sealed Patek from Takuya with his name on the certificate and it didn't bother me at all.

Some are sentimental about the paperwork, others aren't. When it comes to 10-20k Rolex I often would eat the 500-1000 but 20 racks is 20 racks. I know what I would do. |
