I agree. I wonder the wrist size of those who complain about larger watches. Tradition aside, some people find larger watches more comfortable and flattering because they fit better. Keep in mind, too, that the population as a whole is larger now than 50 years ago, never mind 100. Nobody seems to mind that pants and shoes are made in larger sizes to accommodate growth!

I also prefer larger watches. Easier to read and I like the feeling of them better

For me, calendar complications are better suited in smaller cases to be work as a daily and under a cuff. Maybe that's an oldschool view, but my view of it in any case. The new perp calendar is also very thick.

I would say . FINALLY !!!!!!!!
I really don't like all those girlie watches :-)
40mm is a great size to start .
40 till 42 for a classic watch and sports watches can go up to 47 mm (nothing wrong with a 47mm Panerai ) :-)
Haha... too funny my friend. I love my 42mm 5070 but that is as big as I will go and honestly find 39mm to be the ideal size. Panerai! Not for me.

You are spot on regarding omega ( and can include Rolex in your comments)

Baselword= re-edition world

Interesting that most agree with you on this thread
Great write up

Julian
Thanks. Agreed as to Rolex, my second favorite brand.

Interesting take. I do have small wrists so maybe this is something for me but I am 6 ft and 200 pounds, but will take a under 40mm watch any day of the week. I guess my issue isn't with the size of the watch but rather the fact that movements designed for 36mm or smaller cases get put into bigger cases. I have and love a 5070 which also has a small movement for its case, but I feel patek did a superb job of creating a stepped case to deal with that issue.

By the way, thanks for all the comments and feedback. Great to have this discussion with folks who understand the hobby and also appreciate Patek. Best regards.

Well, yes. I think these are too separate issues. It's sloppy to throw a smaller movement into a larger case; however, I appreciate the fact that there are larger dress watches that I can wear without feeling them dig into the sides of my wrist or seeing that they don't have the wrist coverage I feel is appropriate.

I own the 5960 1A steel and i do like the new 5960 release. I would like to see it in real life. I have considered trading to get the older 5960P but may consider the new one (although doubt it would be worth the delta). I do not know if the new brown strap would fit the current steel version... if it does could be a nice alternative to the steel bracelet that comes with the current 5960. I agree that blue would be a better choice.. or at least offer more than one color strap.

I agree. But old-fashioned collectors are not more than 50% of the customers. Someone will be disappointed but most of today buyers they will appreciate these pieces.
But I don't think that this is a good long term strategy.

Couldn't agree more. If that split second Perpetual was 42 and had a tachymetre scale it might tempt me!
