Poll: so how does the 5650 compare

At long last a blue dial. As for the GMT's the 5650 is going to be hugely divisive. So what do we think of "Jaws"?

It's interesting for me but would never buy it. Not really into the 'termnator' look. Think the R is classier

I too find it interesting, not sure why they did what they did. 5164R is a beautiful piece, all day long.

Can't argue with the "Jaws" comment.

The only aquanaut I would ever consider is the new 42 mm white gold

I don't like the look of the cutout and another thing that's different about jaws is the way pattern on the dial is done inside the date wheel. The curved lines look better on the R version, maybe it's the advanced research writing inside making it look different

If the research is so advanced how come they couldn't find enough dial material to fill up the dial...

Would have preferred a full dial but hey these are likely going to collectors who have a lot of stuff.

im not hugely fond of the cutout, but im always partial to blue, so i went 5650. in my humble opinion, it couldve been perfect with a full dial, just like i think the 5170p couldve been perfect with breguet numerals. but maybe splitting hairs here, they are both beautiful watches that most would love to own

I am a fan ... the advanced research stuff in limited quantities are quite cool - they all have something different, such as the salmon dial color... going down from 37 pieces to 12 is a pretty amazing engineering feat. that and the no need for oil makes the front panel 'exposable'. to me, this is PP flexing their engineering muscles, so to speak. I personally dig it and would jump at a chance to procure one

I personally would have preferred they released a 5650P, instead of a 5650G. The previous two AR pieces were in Platinum and making this one WG almost seems like they are holding back. They have released a Nautilus in Platinum - why not an Aquanaut in Platinum? Are they holding out for the Aquanaut 30th Anniversary to introduce a Platinum piece?

So nobody thinks the limited edition 5650G has a dial cutout so that they can later release an identical but dial-in-tact full production version?

Seems like there's been a huge positive reaction to this model (minus the shark bite) and Patek does listen -- as evidenced in the past by eliminating the chin on the 5270.

Maybe they release a non cutout / non advanced research in the new 42mm case size in the next few years?

Patek don't even do a cut out for their tourbillon models, so not sure why it was necessary for the 5650. If it wasn't for the cut out the 5650 would have easily been my favourite. Maybe it looks better irl.

I love the 5650g, the cut out, the colour. Above all, i like the fact that it's not a 42mm. I don't like PP making bigger watches to suit footballers tastes.

The reason Patek does not show their tourbillons is because the oils needed for it to function properly can dry up from exposure to UV light that is not blocked by the crystal. In this instance the silinvar components allow them to display this mechanism on the 5650 because oil is not used. Pretty cool stuff. This piece as JonJon pointed out has an acccuracy that ranges from -1 to +2 seconds per day which is similar to Patek's Tourbillons. That is amazing if you ask me. Check out the video... starts at 4min 15sec.

I had heard that about the oils, but is it really true? What about the 5180 skeleton?

The 5650 is amazing, just not keen on the cut out. On the accuracy front we're saying they've caught Rolex now - they've been -2/+2 on their entire range since 2016.

I'd go advanced research if I could get one. My AD emailed me the pic the other day so maybe it's possible but I don't have the cash.

Kinda bugs me that the (bridge?) screws aren't parallel.
Torque yah yah but cmon, another 30 degrees...ill just stop.

Love the fact that under a cuff on a left wrist, the movement isn't shown, kinda like how I like the date on the crown side (so you don't have to pull up cuff) but here, it's special when you pull up cuff to see crown-opposite side of face.

Really cool fun piece IMO.

That would put it closer to 43mm, considering that the current travel time Aquanaut is 40.8mm while the basic Aquanaut is 40mm.

I hope they don't!
