All black or all different??

So last night i was ready through the thread "My ultimate SS trio!" and the three watches are 3 that I want to own one day. (SS DaytonaC, Sub LVc, and BLNR)

I usually prefer watches with dark dials but also like a little color here and there. I'm getting really close to buying a BLNR to add to my Subc and Explorer II. Sub LVc will be after that then hopefully the DaytonaC with black dial.

But then I started to think if I should just stick with an all black collection? Subc, GMT II LN, Daytona, SD43??

Does anyone have all these models in their collection and could you please share some pictures if so.

I know this is a very subjective question but what would you prefer? A little of everything or all one color?

While I like colored bezels for diversity, generally do prefer black-faced dials.

That is what is holding me back from getting the LVc: too much green. Green bezel is fine, but still not 100% sold on the green dial.

It's completely what you are comfortable with, both owning and wearing. As above, I generally prefer black dials and colour on the outside (aside from my ck obvs). The key thing is, will you want to wear them? For example, I think the hulk is one of the most beautiful watches I have seen, but I also know that it wouldn't be 'me' in the outside world.

It was that exact reason why I flipped my blue pelagos. It was lovely, just I felt self conscious with a big blue watch on.

That's not to disrespect either of the watches as they are great, but you have to base this one your wants and comfort zone. It's pointless thinking you love a watch and not wear it.

So ultimately, if all black floats your boat go for it. They are all different enough, and if I was spending £30k on 4 watches I wouldn't give a rats backside what anyone else thought.

Rolex has too many beautiful blue, grey, white, and green dials to limit yourself to black. Live a little, get something different!!

I can't imagine having only black dials...seems boring to me. If I was only going to have three watches I would have a black, blue, and white.

After buying the BLNR, I found that I had no desire to wear any of my other watches, so I sold them.

I once had the LV and it's a gorgeous piece, but it was just too much green for me.

I actually love my LVc and find myself wearing that more than the BLNR

Every watch company does a good black watch. Its not a hard color to pull off reasonably well and because of the overwhelming amounts of black watches, they can become white noise. Too safe and predictable for many WIS to have too many in one collection. A watch with the right colors like the Platona, LVc, BLNR, Bluesy, etc... become a rare and imaginative jem in a sea of black watches. These watches also reflects on its owners style points alot more than a black watch. IMO.

This is a great way to look at it.

Appreciate all the feedback. I've always been leaning towards the "colorful" option, but like I said, the thought of going all black in the rotation had crossed my mind and thought it'd be interesting to get others thoughts.

I would only wear black dialled watches for ages.
Recently picked up a watch with a champagne dial, weirdly enough it feels like a compromise, somewhere between black and white. This experience has opened up a whole new world to me, I'm thinking silver dial next :)

I say, give one a go!

I have the GMT LN and the SD43. Non Rolex I have a blue dial Seamaster and a white dial IWC. I like the variety of colors, when I put on one of the not black dials it's a nice change, even though they aren't Rolex. My next Rolex (god and wife willing) will have a different color dial. The only problem with adding color is deciding which watch/color to add, that's a long decision process with all the options available. Sticking with black is nice because it makes the decision process much easier.

I would get the D500 in white, I think it looks great and as Rolex do so many nice darker dials this is one of the best lighter ones, then you have white, green and black.

Interesting how the two Tudors in your collection are also the ones that interest me the most, mainly because of the color variety.

OP, you only live once. A collection of all black colored watches is boring in my opinion.

I'm glad that my post inspired you!

My thought process was that because I don't have a 10+ watch collection that I needed to make every piece count. At one point I had a black sub, black GMT, black Daytona and black speedy. They were all fantastic watches but all with the same dial color. Also, I've sort of evolved to where I like more unique pieces that are a little different from each other. So obviously I would encourage you to spread out on dial colors and watch variations but only if that's what you're in to. As another poster said if you're dropping 40k you should be emotionally invested in each one!

Add the color when you are in love with the color. When you can't stop staring at the watch; but never happen know the time... THAT's when the wallet comes out.

BING . . . GO!!

For me, like Real estate is location, location, location. Watches are legibility, legibility, legibility. So all my favorites ared black dial with white numerals/markers.

I also have 15, 20 old aircraft clocks. All are black dial with white numerals/markers. They didn't make any other combinations.

But I do like the blue dials . . .

I like blue dials over black mostly but in my present collection of Rolex watches black gets %50 in mathematical terms. I would like to have a blue dial 116500 LN but stuck to 002

I dont have the exact same model as urs but this was my collection
Black Sub
Black Daytona
Black GMT
Attached is my previous collectio which I think its about the same as urs

However this has changed now
To more multi color
-16170 Pepsi
-Seamaster 2531 Blue Bond watch
-116610LV or Hulk

To tell u the truth I rather have multicolor than all black. But this comes back to ur preference

I have to admit I lean heavily toward black faced pieces this was a huge step out of the box for me!

You need to add some color to your collection. The BLNR might just be the right add
