Hello chaps

Just picked up a 17014 w. Black dial for £1859.
No box or papers.
Working condition.

I’ll let Rolex check it out.

Feeling pleased but it wasn’t my first choice.

Further, I’ve noticed that many owners seem far more willing to open their OCs compared to regular mechanical Rolex watches.

I’m told this example was owned by a watch maker and its recently been serviced and had the glass replaced, with an original spare.

I highly doubt the service element, given the nature of the watch and will wait for Rolex London to inspect.

Fingers crossed.

Sounds like you did OK on the price. No pictures? Guys that work in jewelry and or watches are familiar with removing the case backs. Always nice to see the inside before buying if possible.

I have a few different Rolex bracelets on various watches and I wouldn't say the OC bracelet is flimsy at all

Pic.

The bracelet looks to have been mirror polished. Guessing it didn’t leave Rolex SA like that!

It had been advertised for quite a while, I really hope all turns out to be good for you, they really are nice watches.

Looks like a nice OC reference. I think in time you will dig the Jubilee bracelet over the oyster.

Do you think I have made a mistake?
I was after the entry level 17000.

Have been wearing my 16610 for 21 years, so time for a change...?

What do you think of price? Below market rate? It was poorly advertised with terrible photographs.

I hope so - the SS and black dial is classic, I mean, whats not to love ;-)

But I am feeling out of my depth.
Been looking at a second watch for around 12 months now.
But not considered the OQ until Monday. And now I have one... yikes.

The watch looks fairly dirty, and will need some RSC love I'm certain. So 1859 + 500 = 2359 with a 12-month warranty. Hmmm...

Sorry I had no intention of worrying you, I was only looking at the advert to add another OQ one to the collection and as you said the pictures were awful. As long as it's running and keeping really good time I would think you are OK.

Final word: cheapest working SS OC sold on eBay in the past 12-months... at least that is what my cursory research found.

Thank you - it has been sold as working, so if it isn't, then the seller will have a problem.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Flimsy compared to any other bracelets I have on sports style watches. It seems thinner, and easier to damage than my other watches, and despite adjustment is the only clasp that I own that sometimes opens itself.

I've heard it's a general rolex issue prior to the six series bracelets, but I found it disappointing compared to less prestigious brands (tag, iwc).

I agree... having worn the same watch for the past 21 years, only last year did I wear a newer Rolex for 12 months, while mine was being serviced. The newer bracelet of the Daytona, for example, is superb.
But the vintage style has its own charm. My Sub's clasp has never opened by itself, but the fliplock design helps.

I'll have to be careful with the OC and ensure that its nice and tight fitting.

I agree on the vintage charm, but my inner old man is showing because the daily wear experience of the six digits is far superior (IMO).

Just picked up another OC... 17000, but sold for repair/ spares on eBay. Will be taking both to Rolex London before Xmas with fingers firmly crossed.

Seller seemed honest. He purchased it to hack into a mechanical watch. But it didn’t work.

Lets see.

I’ve had a 17000 OQ with blue dial and stick markers for 5 years now. Just replaced battery at RSC and it was FOC. Really happy with it.
