So you bought a fully working OQ and then spent very nearly the same amount on a non working OQ.

What could possibly go wrong.

I do hope this is not going to end badly.

Something like that... both are abused examples I suspect and will be sent in for assessment.

I simply could not decide between the 17000 vs 17014.

They will both for serviced by Rolex London and then one will be sold, or kept in the safe until the prices have doubled ;-) #hereshopingforamiracle

I like your style sir and admire your optimism.

Exactly the same. It had a strong following, which is good to know just incase I need to pass it back onto the open market. To be honest, the seller seemed like a nice chap and was very open with me re the details. He has just broken even on the sale. I've been tracking prices for the past week and I paid market rate for a non-working example. I think the 17000 is 'the' model to have and this is my preferred dial as well.

Rolex suspect one component to have failed, which will cost £362.50 + VAT in addition to the £500 service. BUT I have done my sums, £2500 for a serviced, polished with a 12-month warranty is below market value.

Fingers crossed its my birth year!

The 17014 is working so again, mid 2000 cost for a serviced and polished watch means I'm still winning. And I'll get to wear one while the other is being done.

I actually reside in Germany so may send one to Koln for service. My local AD has experience of servicing the OC by Rolex, he said expect no lower than 800 EURO. Prices here are a little lower than in the UK.

Once I have both watches I intend on taking proper photographs and documenting the process with Rolex London and Rolex Koln.

Thanks for the advise already given on this thread, I am feeling excited.

Last time I purchased a new watch was 1998! Hence the excitement.

Dear all,

Some basic information that may already be known to many of you. But as I am a newcomer to both this forum the OQ models, and given the title of this thread, I thought some introductory information may be good for the community in general.

Prices in general seem to hover around the 2000-3000 USD/ GBP mark for steel models.

The bicolour does not seem that popular.

OQ was a bigger hit in the USA and Asian markets than in Europe.

I will be scrapping prices from eBay UK and USA and DE to calculate prices. I'll post my results this weekend.

With best wishes,
DrSY

Funny thing, I actually paid more for the broken example. In the end I only paid £1700 for the working model, not £1859.

Should both arrive by the end of this week. Photos to follow once I am back in Blighty mid Dec.

Welcome to the OQ club! Really love the 17000! The 17014 could use a bezel swap, seems really wore down...

I think its a very poor quality photograph - time will tell. I'll have it in mid-Dec.

These tick loudly so if you live in a very quiet area and leave it on the bedside table, you may want to be aware of that.

Prices never seem to increase and I suspect it's down to snob value. These seem to be loved even less than Tudor!

But they're bloody gorgeous and I'd love Rolex to introduce a 40mm version with automatic movement.

I've always admired them and have wanted a second Rolex for some time now. Had a recent 'win' after a 6 year battle, so wanted to celebrate. Was previously wearing my father's Daytona in addition to my Sub, and the issue was having to reset the time, on the watch that wasn't being worn. I didn't want to get into the hassle of winding boxes and have also heard they aren't great for the movement...

So for me, the OQ is going to be perfect. I don't usually keep my watch by the bed ;-) it lives in a drawer along with my other precious items. I really can't wait to have them in my hands and on the wrist.

My Sub was serviced last year, and its made me a little precious. It looks great, I love it. BUT after 20 years, I'm ready for a change. And I didn't want to go down the DJ route, they are becoming SO overpriced for what they are, given their plentiful nature, I just don't get it.

OQ is rare but whilst at the playground the other day (don't worry, I have children ;-)) I saw a chap with a 17000, exactly the one I have purchased, it was bloody gorgeous.

I agree the snob value is present, BUT I like the underdog.

Good night chaps. Greetings from Berlin.

My father has received the silver dial 17000 now. He is not the world's greatest photographer but has reported that the case is in excellent and clean condition. See the attached photographs. I am minded to place the black dial in the 17000 case. And then have the broken movement repaired and the 17014 case polished- it needs it a lot more than this one. What are your thoughts about movement/ dial swaps? I'll of course do this at Rolex and have the change documented.

For those following this thread and my two recent purchased, the black dial 17014 has been received, not by me but by my elderly father in London. I'll see it in a few weeks.

In short, the narrative on the eBay advert was partial true. The bracelet and casing has been over polished - no idea why! The watch is utterly filthy. See the dirt around the cyclops lens. I suspect the old man selling this watch had lost his sight.

But the movement is in great condition - and the dirt is just surface - nothing a little soap and water can't fix.

Poor quality photographs to follow ;-)
