I think the 116200 works great, and all the reliability and durability of a Rolex. Considered both IWC and JLC before buying this one, and have owned the Aqua Terra. No regrets whatsoever.

You’ve gone deep on Rolex - give Patek a shot.

Not sure why Rolex doesn’t give more options when it comes to straps. Every other watch maker does. You can get a Speedmaster and Navitimer on a Strap. It be nice to get a DJ with a strap.

What strap do you have there? Looks great on your DJ.

As you said...other than some Cellinis...I personally don’t think any Rolex is a “true” dress watch. If I was looking to purchase one (not Cellini) for that purpose, I’d go DD or DJ

The WG/YG SkyD on a strap are becoming a Rolex classic. So a SS SkyD should look great.

If not Cellini, then step up a tier or two beyond Rolex. Rolexes are sport watches, not dress watches.

JLC, PP, FPJ, etc etc.

I would have thought the OP is more dress watch than the DJ or DD as less complications.
Loving that DJ with Romans on a black strap, pretty dressy.

I’d say the Explorer I would work. But the Cellini is the answer. Obviously one without a date.

I was thinking the same thing with a black dial.

I also think an explorer I in 36mm can pull it off but isn’t really a dress watch with 3,6 and 9 in Arabic numbers on the dial.

I agree.

If I was looking for a pure dress watch that’s < $10K, I’d get a JLC Reverso Classic Small Seconds.

Seconded! I'm hoping to eventually put the OP on a leather strap as a wedding watch :)

The Cellini range are superb watches, ideal as dress watches. The forums have a long-standing blind spot about this. Own one and you will understand.

This,

I have the same watch on a jubilee and changing it to a quality leather strap was always part of the plan to give the option of both depending on the occasion or mood.

Cant go wrong IMHO.

By the way Hansch99 .... you take some amazing shots of your watch, I've stated in other threads that photos rarely do the white dial DJ (or OP for that matter) any justice compared with in the flesh/metal, but you certainly do the piece justice in your photos.

Agreed with most sentiments here.
I think a day date on leather looks the part of a dress watch.
For SS give me a JLC Reverso or PP funds permitting.
For dress watches, I see the opportunity to add vintage into a collection... How about a nice pie pan Omega Connie?

Do you have a min/max budget? How about a Seiko Presage? On the very low end of what you're talking about but a very sharp looking watch. And with the line up you have I'm guessing a true dress watch will get worn very infrequently, so why spend 10-20x more?
They look tiny on my wrist. I have 7.6” wrist and 40mm is the smallest I can pull
I also prefer SS. I wish Cellini come in 42mm ss

Cellini is tiny on my wrist

You have a great point about why spend 10-20x more!

IWC portofino really appeals to me and am thinking that’s the way I might go

Some of the posted rolex on strap here look amazing but not as “dressy” as a watch meant to be a dress watch I guess
Finally I don’t buy my watches as investment but it doesn’t hurt for them to keep some value so outside Rolex I know they don’t retain same value!

Maybe it's just me, but in person, and after trying them on, I definitely prefer JLC over IWC. Prior to seeing them in person and trying them on, I would have said it's a toss up. However, definitely get what you want. Don't listen to strangers on the internet.

JLC, Patek, Parmigiani, Omega... all better strap options than the limited selection from Rolex.
If I had to choose one, it would be the WG Sky-Dweller. But it's been discontinued.
