Why it should not take Rolex any time at all to release the new SS Sub
When Rolex decides to release the Stainless Steel Submariner in it's new version with the maxi-case dial and hands and new bracelet will be interesting because they are already making all of the parts for it now. If they take until the end of next year it will simply be a marketing decision not a manufacturing holdup or delay.
The case of the TT Sub has been out now on shelves in several places and it is what will be on the SS Sub as well as the crystal. The Movement is of course nothing new, 3135, and the dial and hands should be exactly the same as the TT model. The bracelet is the same as the new GMTIIC in stainless except for the clasp which is the same as the DSSD. There could be a difference in endlinks, but machining is running making them in White gold and TT so even if they are different from the GMTIIC SS, it should be pretty much the same. The bezel will probably be the exact same as the white gold Sub being produced now. Sorry I forgot that one is white gold so it will be SS with the same ceramic insert. Am I overlooking any other major parts? Perhaps the crown, but is it different enough to cause any real delay? So the crown and the SS metal bezel ring may not be in production right now but how big of a deal is that, just a material change from current production. What about the part that takes the heat from your skin to power the watch?
(yes, a Rolex owner has asked me if that is how they worked) |

That has been replaced with ...
That has been replaced with a very small nuclear reactor called the S5W.001. An inside joke to old Submariners of the Naval type.
