My WIS-dom started when I was like 10 year old, with THIS.
I didn't own it until recently, but it was my first GRAIL I dreamed of getting and remember thinking about it for years, using every opportunity I had to go and look at it in the store window, figuring out how it works and fantasizing about wearing it. It was waaaaay out of mine or my parents budget as it costed their monthly salary, and times war tough, so it was just a dream. I guess my watch collecting is also partly a compensation for those times. 20240113_084019.jpg Sent from my SM-A415F using Tapatalk |

My first weekend job was working in a high end video and hi-fi store. The customers were a mix of well-healed City and professionals, gangsters and most importantly a few ex-professional divers; one of whom was a man mountain with long hair, beard and a solid gold Rolex Submariner with a blue dial, I’m assuming a 1680/8 or 16808. To this day, my grail would be one of those.

I can’t remember exactly where my fascination began. I had many Casio’s or other digital watches as a kid and eventually moved to some fashion branded quartz models as a teen.
Must be around 10/11 years ago when I was looking for something a bit more robust and settled on a diver for its waterproofness. Unaware of the peril lurking ahead, I naively searched the internet for a what I thought would be a quick review of best dive watch. This led me to the Seiko SKX009 and the rest is history as they say. |

Perhaps cliche, but the Omega 2541 from Goldeneye. I have the midsize 2551.80. PXL_20220419_153614386.jpg

Tag formula 1 chronograph with a white dial. I don’t have any pictures of mine as I gifted to my father years ago. Here is an image I found of the exact same model.

I gave a very similar model to my son-in-law, Tony, for Christmas, one year. Sadly, we lost Tony, to the war in Afghanistan. I’ll never forget how pleased and surprised he was, when I gave him that Tag. Then he said, “But how will I get it fitted?” I answered, “Come here”. I got my tools out, measured it to his wrist, and it was ready for him to wear, in 5 minutes. He was incredulous that I could do that. It is one of my fondest memories, regarding our relationship. This one, the Oris TT1 diver. Thankfully, I still have it. I think it was about 2008 or 09.

Interesting how we all bought other really nice Swiss brands, before Rolex. Love Breitling. I had an Aerospace, which was very cool. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

First job out of college. In some mall in San Diego. Always wanted a dive watch with the Pepsi bezel. Paid $350 (?) for this one in 1990. Still have it.

For me it was this one. My older brother of 16 years bought it for himself when he graduated from university in the early 1970s. Every evening it would sit on his nightstand. I always admired it, but I was too afraid to touch it. He told me I could look at it and put it on as long as I was careful and put it back in its place afterwards. When he died, his oldest son got it, as he should have, but I searched for one and found one for myself.

Panerai got me.
Was in Maui w my family when I was about 18. Went into a Rolex dealer w my dad and they had a counter if Panerai and I fell in love. It was the 292 (ceramic radiomir) that I was most attracted to but surprisingly have never bought one. My first nice watch was a Panerai 111 about a year later. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
