Explorer II 50th Anniversary 2021?

Does anyone have any speculative ideas about this potential release?

I personally would hope Rolex would drop the case size back down to 40mm for this, and maybe give it a bit of a re-issue vibe to the vintage models.

Any idea when this watch would release in 2021? Is spring out of the question?

Would love to hear some thoughts!

I hope, really hope they don't stick a ceramic bezel on the Exp 2.

A change back to 40mm would be fantastic.

It's hard to say whats going to happen but I sure hope it's more than just the new movement. If I had to bet, I think there will be a little change somehow. But don't forget, right now they have a case size for everyone with the EXP being 42mm.

Considering Rolex increased the size of the Submariner, SD, and OP, I don’t think it’s likely to see them shrink it. I do think it’s likely they will put a ceramic bezel on it.

A white dial Explorer 2 with a black bezel will be the new edition to the Panda lineup.

Same here, a drop to 40mm and no ceramic bezel would be unreal. Probably wont happen though judging by the size increase on the Submariner and trend towards the ceramic bezels.

Very true, with the 42mm explorer II it kind of gives options to all wrist sizes.

Yes this seems likely, but how would they put a panda dial on it I don't get that. I can see the classic polar dial with a black bezel though.

Seems like any white dial with black bezel is getting that nickname these days. If they put a black black dial on the polar, it will be called the Panda...

If they did plan for it most likely it'll be delayed thanks to the Rona.

The Seamaster 300 diver with the white dial and black bezel is a big hit apparently, Omega clearly tried to emulate the Daytona ceramic panda and it seemed to work well. I would not be surprised if Rolex tries to do the same with the Explorer II next year, they know it's a very popular design among watch collectors right now.

Ya that's a little strange, the explorer II would need sub-dials to get the panda label IMO.

I’ve had an explorer 2 white dial on deposited order next up with my AD since May, and they haven’t received one. They received the Cermit, other subs, a few Daytona’s(including the John Mayer), a few gmts here and there. The lack of explorer ll is surprising to me because that watch often was around at the many ADs I’d pop my head in to. It’s been a solid 9 months since I’ve seen anything. I suspect Rolex really pulled back on inventory on this one ala Hulk in the last several months of the 11610LV’s production. Something is definitely in the works.

That’s an interesting proposition but not sure how it’d work.

This would be my dream as well, I'd put aside a Daytona purchase for it.

I'm not sure I'd be too into that since the Explroer II seems to be one of the more "Tool" style watches from Rolex, would PM fit it?

Well you never know with Rolex, its all SS until it isn’t. Just look at the TT Seadweller, I don’t think anyone saw that one coming. As for the Explorer 2 I guess it will have a green element, dial, hands or bezel. Or Rolex doesn’t release any update at all.

As was mentioned earlier, a green dial or GMT hand would be nice.

A solid or sunburst dial in the right shade of green would be a nice anniversary touch, or even light blue.

The sunburst bezel is the most mesmerizing feature of the Explorer, so not sure if ceramic would look better, but who knows??

I picked up a polar Explorer a few months ago. I think if this was slightly smaller it would be a more popular watch. The small bezel, large white dial, and long lugs, make it feel larger than it should be on paper.

Sunburst on the new anniversary Explorer II would be really perfect. Definitely needs to drop down to 40mm though, I'm personally not interested at 42mm because of my small 6.5 inch wrist. The sub 114060 is the largest I can go.

I think they might release it with some green somewhere

Green seems to be used for Rolex anniversaries

I can’t believe Rolex won’t recognize the significance in some way. Size wise with the Sub growing (slightly), I bet they will keep the 42mm size.

They probably will keep it at 42mm, just seems like the trend Rolex is following plus less headache with no size change.

Although everyone was very surprised to see the Sub jump to 41mm for the first time ever so who knows really.
